I/III/13eme DBLE, as the primary.
But what is so great about FICW is the availability of equipment, weapons and uniforms. One can put together just about any French impression they want , and do it correctly! Legion, Para, Coloniale, French Union, you name it!!!!! And there exist a wealth of excellent research material available!!!!!!

Greetings Comrades. When I'm not reenacting the Chindits in the CBI (1942-45) I enjoy causing mischief as a disillusioned ex-colonial Vietnamese peasant from time to time (although I'm not Vietnamese...) and since the French Foreign Legion deemed it necessary to steal away all the CBI reenactment support, it looks like I must get them back by making their lives a living hell in February! Beware the straw hat and tire sandals!

Bonjour à tout! I'm member and one of two founders of a little group here in Germany. We portray 13.DBLE from Bir Hacheim til Algerie. We are still researching / doing our homework. Up to now we attended two events as Legion and Colonial Infantry. The interests differ from Legion to Colonial and French infantry, Metropolitan and Colonial Paras. Two of us prepare also a 1940 French infantry impression. With best regards, Turner

Oh......Just you wait Martini.......there has been a lot of research and talk here over the Pond, and there is evidence of both WSS and Wehrmacht Cam being used by Indig Tailors..... Yep various zelts being made into shirts, shorts etc, Heer and SS types. On our last event we had to face widespread history-ignorance. The sentence we didn't want to hear anymore is: "Dien Bien Phu - the last battle of the Waffen SS". Somehow many Germans seem to believe that the whole legion consisted of former German POWs, preferably of WSS, although by 1954 and a low average age of the soldiers very few could have served in WWII. Regards, Turner

Y'know, I've often said that.

Quite agree about the SS myth etc, been far to over rated, as you say most of the WW2 vets had finished their contracts by 1950/51 anyway except for a few NCO's.
Me and Ogg also are busily researching over the pond and like you guys have been doing it a long time, on our own practicaly but its something we really enjoy.
Also like Algeria myself and collect the different types of M47's myself and this forum is gonna be good for us Indo nuts to discuss stuff.

Ditto on the SS stuff!!!! WAAAAY to much continuation of the myth. Too many "kids" to have ALL been in the SS. The majority of folks here (reenactors included) that even know there was a war in Indochine before 1964, are also convinced that;
A. ONLY the Legion fought in Indochina.
B. They were ALL former SS!

The one thing about Indo China is the fact that so many units can be represented using a minimum amount of kit.....

However, I think the myth of former SS is blown out of porportion (as Renault has said)! /martini/

Hi! Just found then time to sign in here. I am Frank, and I am in the group of Turner. My impressions are Colonial Infantry and Paras. Due to my collection of British and US WW2 I have a lot of items to choose from, now I am finishing my WW2 French uniform (just found an original Mle38 greatcoat in my size in France). Hope to get some help here for my FICW-impession. ;D img.photobucket.com/albums/v102/golani/reenactment/Indochina/IchPara1.jpgBye Frank
