The last fella is an adjutant. Note the red line through the middle of the bar. Interesting ensemble: 47/52 set en vert, Fairbairn-Sykes, Luger P08, Mle. 45 TTA leather belt, and whatsoever is going on with that hat? Is it an American cap (I think not with the havelock thing going on.)? Unlike the 8e BPC and Bigeard caps, that actually has brim reinforcement like a modern ball cap. I've seen those pictures before, but I can't recall if they were attributed to any specific unit or not. The unit looks like it had a bunch of gear thrown at them and this happened to stick.
I need a new scabbard for my F-S. I'll see if the M8 work, but I don't have much confidence in that happening.

This is the link to the series on ECPAD: www.ecpad.fr/le-commando-lasserreNice catch on the rank; the link above states his last name is Lasserre (he's the CO of the commando unit). I just wonder if the commando units wore the same style cap as the GCMA units, which is allegedly where the 8BPC got their style of cap from. Ha...I know, you'd think that F-S would move around inside that M-8; perhaps he modified the scabbard?!

Happy to help. It was one of the first things to come up in a Google search, although I have seen it before, just never put it together who exactly they were.

I thought you were better than that. That's not even close to an 8e Choc cap. The brim is reinforced, has too few rows of stitching, and I've yet to see one with the extra panel above the brim.

Found another one: At Dien Bien Phu, André Leguennec delivers mail to his section. He was killed on Dominique 2, March 25, 1954.

The hat with the flap looks almost like it is of the typical casquette Bigeard pattern with a squared/non-swallowtail neck flap. Very interesting.
