Were British or Aussie Bush hats occasionally worn during FI? Just curious....Id thought that I had seen a few photographs of that type of hat but may have confused it with the Chapeau de Brousse.

I'm sure you might have seen them VERY early on. But when the Chapeau de Brousse came out they were almost a universal thing. They are a great hat. They caught on like gangbusters. I believe they were theatre made before they became an issue item!
The Brit/Aussie hats were felt, so I suppose that if it was all you had that was fine, but as you know the CdeB was cotton fabric and much better suited for the climate. I wear mine all the time while working outside in the south Texas heat! Great hat! Love it!
Personally, I think you see more pith helmet usage early on by the French than the felt Brit/Aussie hats....
I could certainly be wrong....... I've been many times in the past!!!! ;D

British bush hats were used by the 1er Bataillon SAS in Laos in 1946...
