Nice pics of a nice uniform! Thanks for sharing it. I thought the Tenue de saut Mle 1947 was that one with the leather reenforced shoulders. So which is the model with the leather reenforcements? Regards, Turner

Thats a nice suit Renault,
The material and the pattern certainly seems to support your assertion that they are original. I have not heard of the ARVN having used their own version of this uniform post-1954. If they did, it would probably have been the camouflage 47/52 & 47/53 variants, as worn in Laos and Cambodia, post 1955. Either way, if its original - its in excellent condition. If its ARVN, its still nice, and accurate to pre 1955 specs. If its repro, its an excellent copy.
A winner all round.

The tenue de saut Mle 1947, came to indochine with the first paras in country. According to Major Vandergriff when we talked years ago they were still in use untill 1953 by some troops. While they were hotter than the 47/51 and other cammo uniforms they were alot tougher. The leather shoulders may have been rigger work, no proof of that though.

Merci! Cookie, I certainly don't know if this was ever used by post 1955 troops either. Mere speculation on my part due to their overall condition, which is really nice. I haven't a clue about the leather reenforcements, Turner. First I've heard of them. But as Valjean stated, sounds like it could be a rigger modification. I do not know if this is an original suit or a repro. It is very nice quality. And it appears to have had some use. But that can be easily replicated as we all know! The dealer I received this from is a Viet Nam era dealer here in the states and he felt pretty sure they were original. He did say he thought he had 2 or 3 more sets just like this one in storage. Least he did last June. Renault

The set is a kaki modele 47/51. The set with leather reenforcements on the shoulder is known as "tenue Extreme Orient",it was official production made by the quatermaster in Saigon....
