Hello all i am a big fan of the history of WW2 and the french military. Me and my two really good friends have our favorite countries rifles of WW2 and i have a mas 36 also a mas 49/56. We tend to do drills and speed shooting with our rifles and im tired of putting my clips in my pockets. I want a surplus clip pouch for my 36 to put on my belt so i have a proper place to put my clips. I have only found mag pouches for mas 49s and i was wondering if you guys knew where i could get a strip pouch? Thanks alot for any help you can give me!

For the Mle. 36, either the Mle. 45 leather belt pouches or the green canvas Mle. 50 and 50-51 pouches would be appropriate. linklink*No affiliation with either of these sellers.

Thank you very much for the info! i just have one question are those mag pouches or clip pouches? i was just wondering if a french soldier of the time period would be putting spare ammo in a mag pouch? i will be probably getting them anyways but if you can get back to me that would be great.

Hi TSS237. They are actually both. They will fit a mag for the 47/56 or five rounds on stripper clips. You can fit three strippers in them easily for 15 rounds. Joe.

Two pouches would be the normal belt compliment for a rifleman or grenadier (although I've seen a picture or two of some paras with three of the green canvas pouches). So, 60 rounds in stripper clips for the MAS Mle. 36 series rifles, or 40 rounds in four magazines for the Mle. 49 series (many also clipped another magazine to the left suspender). Additional ammo would be carried in cardboard boxes in the pack. Boxed rifle ammo in the '50's and '60's came 15 rounds to a box on three stripper clips. Rounding out the belt compliment was one canteen (many times two, especially in Algeria), and perhaps a triple grenade pouch.
