I'd like to see photo evidence of a Bigeard cap in "frogskin" camo. The only thing close I've seen is the first variant of 8e Choc's unit-specific cap. Hoover's item demonstrates that non-standard variants were produced, however, so I don't see why an HBT example wouldn't have been made.
I actually have a Bigeard cap in HBT camo from NCHS. I could easily be convinced to sell it.

I've never seen a picture of a Bigeard cap in Indochina made out of anything but British windproof material, and then the switch in Algeria to Lizard. The 8e Choc's caps were made out of windproof and duckhunter camo.
On that note, Steve do you have the pattern available for the 8e cap? I've convinced Cary (Panzerfaust-1943) to make the caps from his excellent windproof material (the best repro windproof available I think), but I need the pattern. I believe you have one?

I do not have a pattern, but George at NCHS had a tailor on the East Coast make three for me. One went to Craig. His tailor has HBT or Windproof fabric. Not to dismiss Cary's excellent work and customer service, but George will bend over backward to make any issue right and his accomplice does absolutely first-rate work. I don't think there existed an original 8e Choc cap that were these well-made.

Lew,
I'm interested in a Bigeard cap in British windproof fabric. Do you have the contact information/details for George Petersen at NCHS? I could 'cold call' him, but I would rather reference your previous project as an introduction.
Thanks,
Jeff

Thanks, Steve.
I found a size 59 on George's eBay site, though I would prefer a size 60.
The panzerfaust cap looks pretty green. Shouldn't the pattern be more brown dominant pour indochine? I have references that would answer my question, but they are still in transit from Germany with the rest of my collection (and household goods).

Windproof camo is large fields of colour. Green dominant is pot luck. It's possible to have such a cap without any green at all I would think. Most likely of course is some of all the component colours

The choc pattern caps look to me to be copies of usaaf mechanics vs type ball caps near as dammit, in frogskin

Jeff, either color "pattern" would be correct for Indo or Algérie, though the darker color scheme was more predominant in Indochine.
Timp, you are correct: le casquette du 8e Choc is indeed based on the USAAF cap, whereas the Bigeard cap has its inspiration in the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy cap. Bigeard himself was a fan of the design., which was made more practical with better fabrics. The first pattern of the 8e BPC cap was made in "forgskin" camo, with the two subsequent iterations being Windproof. All patterns were seen at Dien Bien Phu.
