Howdy Y'all,
The Dien Bien Phu Reenactment scheduled for 3 - 6 June 2016 has been cancelled due to a lack of Viet Minh forces.
I'd like to thank the members of the planning committee for their efforts.
Craig

We are having a similar problem in the Mid-Atlantic getting enough IJA for WWII PTO events. Trying to figure out how to get people interested in the opposing force. The Vietnam Minh impression just doesn't seem as cool as our vast variety of French impressions.

The Vietnam Minh impression just doesn't seem as cool as our vast variety of French impressions. If one has access to full-auto weaponry, the OPFOR takes on more appeal. It would be pretty sweet to run around with a PPsH-41, a PPS-43, or a DP-28. VM kit is cool, but, in my opinion, not nearly as cool as French equipment. Then there's the bit about most of us not looking even remotely Oriental. As I told Craig, getting OPFOR for an Algerian War event would be far, far easier. Hell, I'm even part North African.

Talking to the OPFOR commander the date picked killed the event, it directly competed with a WWII event that everyone who was recruited to show as Minh attended, this was know several months ahead, could have been avoided.
i hope this can be planned again as several of us looked forward to attending this event.

I don't know any details of the WW2 event, nor of the details to which Mick and crew were privy, but we knew about the DBP event for over a year. Surely, someone could have said something instead of just jumping ship at the last minute. That's the way it looks to me, and, again, I only have a limited amount of information.
