Found this on a board on Face book I haven't seen that much about the caps.

Take note of the Hitler Jugend knife on the para at the right.
I'm getting some caps made up. It will take a while, but I'll post pictures of them and the originals I have.

Both of those appear to be 6e BPC. Almost everyone in 8e Choc at Dien Bien Phu had the special caps, so the chapeau de brousse was rare (nonexistant?) in that unit at that time. The caps pictured looked to be those of 6e BPC (casquette Bigeard). Two more hints (granted the sample size is small): 1) All the caps pictured are of the British Windproof fabric; 8e BPC's were in both Windproof and US "Frogskin". 2) The Mle. 47/52 tenue TAP: 8e BPC was not issued this uniform, while 6e BPC was (in small numbers).
Cool pictures, regardless.

How could I forget that excellent series. Again, well done, M. Étienne.

I am merely a shirker and a shammer compared to you.

I don't knit, and my wife's too lazy to do socks. I do have both patterns of 8e Choc caps, though. Again:
