Hello! Check out ebay vendor nyca44 Normandie for period correct helmets- I ordered a Indo modified US helmet after looking through the website. Look it over and let me know what you think (I hope I'm not getting gigged by this guy), he also has some hardware to adapt helmet straps to the correct configuration. I'll post my review in the ebay finds section when the piece comes in... Adieu! ---Toussant

I bought two sous casques ("under helmets", liners)- Mle. 50/53 and CEFEO-modified- from his store and M1 casques lourdes from J. Murray Militaria. Both liners are very well done, although the liner material seems a little on the flimsy side. Not a problem when it's in the steel helmet, though. The straps look every bit like the real thing. I will be taking those and my M1C to the DBP event.

Thanks for the input! I'm looking forward to getting it in the next couple of weeks. I believe it has a rear seam helmet, which is very late WWII or just postwar- I figure putting on the original '43 OD net and a couple of neoprene bands with the original '49 dated French bandage will detract from the rear seam of the helmet anyways and make a seam difficult to perceive even up close. I'm sure a light liner won't cause any problems either, as it will never see real combat anyway... Adieu! ---Toussant

The good thing about Indo/Algérie is that pre-/during-/post-War doesn't matter too much as the French got everything. Your plan is solid.
The problem I have with the liners is that the back portion of the nape extends quite a way below the edge of the steel helmet when the liner is fully seated and a helmet net is on. A few minutes with a Dremel and the problem will be fixed, though.

I've dealt with him as well. I got the CEFEO modified liner and put it with a front seam M1 helmet. I've got no complaints. I'll need to look at my set up. I don't recall my liner sticking out with the net on...

Just got the helmet today- when checking out the liner, it is very flimsy plastic that bends easily. I put on an original helmet net and when to adjust the chinstrap made of thin poplin material rather than canvas, and one of the v yolks ripped out because not enough material was stitched in to hold in place. It literally unraveled and pulled out! Now I have a repair and I'm not really impressed with the overall quality. I should have gone with my instinct and purchased a proper WWII relic and modified it myself to the correct configuration... I may still have to do this, hmmmmmmm... ---Toussant

What Price Glory was at one time doing them or planning to do them. I saw some preliminary pics on another French Indochine board. I have sent an email but have yet to hear back.

Huh... Not like my liner at all... My liner is a Westinghouse liner. Top notch all the way.

I got mine on eBay.fr.
I had no issues with mine and the fabric is canvas. Interested to see how this shakes out.

I ended up buying a J. Murray WWII para liner Westinghouse configuration as seen on p.88 in Guyader's book on the Legion in Indochina. I also picked up an original chin strap for the steel helmet and the web postwar chin strap that has the 4 zinc grommets on each side for adjustment that is also prominently pictured on the same page. That'll learn me for trying to skate by on the cheap. Oh well, ya win some, ya lose some... Adieu! ---Toussant

Hi Toussant,
I just wanted to ask if the CEFEO set that you purchased was from Normandy Accessories? Thank you in advance.

Yes, it was from that vendor. He has contacted me trying to find out to resolve the situation, but I told him that the cost of replacement/repair wasn't worth the hassle. I figure that there are plenty of vendors here in the States that I could get the materials to cobble up a better representation without the all the problems of importing a economical copy. I wish no ill will on the man, I just don't see myself purchasing from him again. Mark you, this is just my take on the situation... ---Toussant

He did, to his credit- provided I send it back to France, have it repaired and sent back to me on my nickel. Like I said, I've already paid too much for it for a fix that will not last anyways, which is why I'm going with a J. Murray built Westinghouse para liner and the same type of chinstrap as on p. 88 in Guyader's Legion in Indochina. I wish I had gone that route in the first place... Live and Learn, I guess... ---Toussant

Yeah, that's crap. I don't blame you one bit.
Good call on J. Murray. I've dealt with the company on a few occasions and they've been first rate.
