Don't worry David - he doesn't like Winchester M97 trenchguns either. You're in good company.

took some pics of the kit tonight... just wanted to post it on here and encourage any other VM to do the same! if you ignore the goatee, and the fact that i'm obviously over six feet tall and not remotely asian, I'd say its on its way to looking decent... of course my asault kit would consist of my pith helmet, chest bandoleer and SMG only... this is my full ho chi minh trail rig.

Don't worry David - he doesn't like Winchester M97 trenchguns either. You're in good company. They look good in the hands of a US Marine, lousy in French Hands....... We had people like you in my unit - we called them Cavaliers! ;D ;D Great impression - I reckon it'll cover later on too!

I'm not an expert for Viet Minh, but I'd prefer the Japanese rucksack as it is at least contemporary and the Vietcong rucksack is of later production. The Japanese rucksack could be a nice relict from the Japanese that left Indochina in 1945. À bientôt ! Jens

I'm thinking that just about any Japanese left overs would be more that proper for a Viet Minh impression! Weapons, mess kits, canteens, etc.

Yeah, bring the Japanese ruck. Vietnamese rucks would be more appropriate for the U.S. "conflict"

I found a website highly recommended by some Japanese WWII reenactors for those looking for Chinese supplied captured equipment that may just be what you're looking for with a Vietmihn impression. Look up Hikishop.com and you will find all kinds of Japanese WWII equipment for Army or Navy. Hope this helps someone out with their independence crusade from the dreaded French (wink!) ---Toussant

There's a Dien Dien Phu event planned for next June (look down a few forum subsections for the thread). We'll need some Viets, and hopefully this information will help.

Here's a photo from the Hanoi war museum - Scout Soldier Pham Ngoc Thuy played this harmonica after Dien Bien Phu "to encourage the wounded." Maybe add one to your medical kit.
