The fourragere is for the Legion d'Honneur, the rank is that of sergent chef, and the ribbons are as follows from top left, through right, to bottom:
Croix de valeur militaire avec étoile (star), Croix du Combattant, Médaille Coloniale avec l'agrafe de Extrême-Orient, Médaille commémorative de la guerre 1939–1945 avec agrafes, Médaille Militaire, Médaille commémorative de la campagne d'Indochine, and Médaille Commémorative des Opérations de Sécurité et de Maintien de l'Ordre en Afrique du Nord
Nice grouping. Whomever those belonged to saw a lot of action in a few different places over a long time. Certainly consistent with a Legion career.

Lew thanks, my thoughts as well on a full history, it's all original but as this felliw did everything we portray, location wise almost seems like that impossible impression most reenacters do,
All that action and lived through it all, three full wars, love to hear the story

It would make for a fantastic read, certainly someone you could have spent hours with listening to his life.
Thanks for sharing.

I'm not gonna lie: I had fun figuring out which was which. The "Médaille commémorative de la guerre 1939–1945 avec agrafes" initially threw me for a loop since the green looks faded to yellow. 15-20 years of service over three brutal wars does not an easy life make. Any hint at what other units this individual was in? Is that a 1e BEP or REP insignia?

It all came off of a private purchase khaki shirt, not issue like, but I would gather one from the 70's, with French epaulets, but shirt cut more like a US khaki shirt. It did have an extreme Orient shoulder patch not in the picture. No unit patch or pocket fob.
