If anyone is looking for one, there is a seller on Ebay named foxholefrank who usually has a couple for sale. His starting bid is always $14.95. I picked up a nice 1954 dated one from him a few days ago. Comes with the cover and cup.
The same seller also occasionally has the MAT 49 ammo pouch, and the canvas and leather ammo bags with shoulder strap.

Can someone confirm something for me - when did the TAP Canteen change from having the Bidon type spout and half cup, to the large spout & 44 copy Mug?

Not sure, but the 54 dated one I picked up has the large spout and 44 style cup.

Someone mention Algerie' ? My bottle is the bidon type tho would probably use a US canteen or British 44 patt as more common for most of the war.

So I went to look at my bidon to see if it was dated..... I believe these bidons are refered to as the M47 model. I thought I read a French text somewhere on this.... I believe this one is un-issued; i144.photobucket.com/albums/r174/lt13demi/100_1139.jpgAnd alas it wasn't dated. It has the typical maker's marks but no date. The cover is dated but I can't read it. I picked this one up from a Legion collector in all places, Abilene Texas. Now Our Caporal-Chef on this board picked up a canteen that I've never seen from the same guy. It looks like a cross between this model bidon and an old M1877 WWI type bidon! It is BIG! And it's not an M1935 WWII type! It's definitely 1950's Indochine/Algerian issue... I use my my USGI canteen and cup for FICW. Renault

After I bid on, won and paid for my TAP 50 canteen I realized I already had one from my days in TAG. The one I’ve already got has a really wonky gray “pleather” cover, but aside of that seems identical to the one I purchased from EBay. Who knew?

Awesome!!!!!! Merci Turner! Works for me!!!!!
BTW, I also have one of the aluminum Indo & Algerie drinking cups as shown on this page! It looks like one of the WWI cups, but is brand new. I knew it was French, but was unaware of the timeperiod. I speculated it was later like Indochine or Algerie!
Now I know!!!!!!
Thanks again for posting!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, Renault! Nice cup! It seems that these cups were around for a long time. What about the suspenders you're wearing? I've got also a pair of them and somebody told me years ago that these were French Foreign Legion. But I've never seen any proof for that. Thought it might be of Austrian origin. Quite strange that M1945 suspenders were copied. Back to the cups. As most of us did British reenactment prior to the French thing, we are still stuck with the brown British enamelled mugs. Salut!
A few years ago I owned one of these suspenders. Mine was stamped HBI what I believe is Austrian Army. But maybe the French had a similiar one?

I'm like you Turner, I was always told they were French.
I had those laying around and didn't have a pair of TAP 50's so I used these...... They look to me like re-worked M1936 USGI suspenders with the USGI hooks afixed to the leather straps. Definitely not copied, but reworked old issue suspenders.
I cannot think that ALL of these were made from worn out suspenders??? How do you come up with that many suspenders worn in the same spot??? Which tells me there had to be a reason to rework them into this configuration..... I've still got them stored in a box somewhere so I'll take them out and look them over again tonight. But they definitely started out life as another set of suspenders and were transformed into these.....
I too, have never been able to find a pair of these pictured anywhere else. Since I've picked up 2 or 3 pair of TAP 50 suspenders, and a pair of M1936 USGI to use instead of these.....

You are right Turner, they are re-worked M45 suspenders. Mine are date 1952 on one of the leather tabs. I haven't looked at these things in years. There's also a name printed in ink of some past owner.
There are other markings with the date, but I cannot make them out tonight. Maybe I can get a better look at them in the sunlight.
More to come!

Hi, Renault!
My suspenders are mint and the ink stamps on two of the front leather straps are:
______ | HBA | |1957 | |-----| | (D) | |-----| | H | --- | | R |____|
According to my research HBA is the abbreviation of the Austrian Heeresbeschaffungsamt (Army Supply Department).
The belt material is thicker than on US M-1945 suspenders, it has a dark khaki colour and it is not lined. There are no other stamps or signs than the one pictured above.
With best regards, Turner

Yep,, Though worn, that looks like the same type marking as on mine. Except for the date.
Austrian, works for me... I hadn't a clue what they were......

Renault Sad enough they made me start researching, collecting and reenacting FFL. Without even being a FFL item! Strange world! (and I#m sure that they will not make me start an Austrian impression!!) ;D À bientot, Turner
