From the Facebook announcement:
I would like to announce that we are going to shoot for holding a national level Dien Bien Phu event at Top Squadron Field in October of 2016 (weekend TBD).
We originally wanted to hold an event there last year around the time of the 60th Anniversary of the battle, but it fell through. I think we have enough interest here to make it work this time.
The event will be open to any unit that can field a FIC impression. If you know anyone who might be interested, steer them to this group. I'll create an actual event page once we know which weekend we're going to hold it on.
We'll also need Viet Minh. It's a pretty simple impression to do that doesn't require a huge outlay of cash to do correctly. Doing regular uniformed VM can cost as little as an irregular impression using black pajamas.
Start getting the word out.
More details to come!

I'm in.
I'll force my brother to join in at gun point if need be. I have Brit Windproofs, Denison Smocks, and, with the addition of the 47/52 sets, I'll be able to cover any airborne impression. I have my eye on 8e Choc, though. I'm way too big and too white to play the part of a VM, but perhaps I can reverse-Shanghai some Orientals into kibbutzing with us.
Where exactly is the field? Google turned up something in Erie, KS, but you had mentioned Oklahoma earlier.
Do you know if anyone has automatic or crew-served weapons?

If I'm not mistaken this is the place. I don't recall mentioning OK... Theres a separate post for a trainin' event this October in TX. As far as crew served weapons, I haven't a clue. Maybe Mick can chime in with some more info.

Nope, you and I were communicatin' via e-mail about the group buy and the number of individuals in the TX/OK area. My mistake.
Turns out I wasn't far off.

Gents, any questions you have, fire away. Our intention is to get out as much information as EARLY as possible. We wish to have a large attendance from both sides: CEFEO and Viet Mihn reenactors. And of course, "the enemy" is what we need. Shake the bushes in your local Vietnam War reenacting unit or whatever era you may reenact. In any event, feel free to post any questions you have about the event. Remember: this will be a non-stop, tactical reenactment starting on a THUR and ending late SAT night. There are some incredible scenario events and other interesting things well post. This will be the first time ( we know of ) that Dien Bien Phu has actually been recreated in the US. Cheers, Mick

Awesome. I'll make sure to make it. I'll get an e-mail off to ya shortly. I'm sure most of us don't need to be told about authenticity, but is there a standard available specific to this event so that we are all at least starting from the same specs? Ammunition requirements? What about food? Reproducing rations is going to be a pain. Alcohol (responsible use, of course) permitted (for authenticity's sake )? Thanks again for getting this rolling, Mick.

For those interested in attending, now's the time to get yerself in shape. Take a look at the period photos: no fatties in attendance. Seriously, if we're focusing all this attention on uniforms and who did what, let's take a look at improving ourselves. Plus, we don't need no participants keelin' over. Cheers!

Weights, weights, weights are better than endurance exercise if losing fat mass is your goal. It would be counter-productive to make your muscles more efficient if the intent is to burn off excess fuel. Plus, there's the additional benefit of strengthening the skeleton and connective tissues. I see all these folks running to get in shape everywhere and I shake my head. Rant off!

Not bad enough. I was rather disappointed, having expected greater resistance. I suppose I could still try to beat him, but he has a lot more MMA experience than I.

Well, I have three. No idea on the numbers, and it's still early. I'll ask Mick on the tally so far. I have some extra gear, but I need another Mle. 36 or a Carbine. Plenty of time to prep.

I'm plannin' on bein' there. I haven't seen a guestimate of early committals. But CEFEO forces should be no problem.
The concern is gettin' enough Viet Minh forces.

The concern is gettin' enough Viet Minh forces. That will be the challenge. Mick said 25 have spoken up so far. 3 units accounted for. That's an excellent showing this early in the game.

Lookin' good for a 6e BPC or 1e BEP impression. Just make sure to not use the OD-colored chapeaus de brousse. Recoiless rifle= drool. I need to work on my emaciated "I've been in the field for weeks and have at least three parasites" look.

Was it the French or the Israeli's under contract, or a Israeli re-dye job if French did not make?
