Any of these good? I'm not sure whether the #1 does even have the rubber ankle disc. And what is community's general opinion about high shaft desert boots, like these www.ebay.com/itm/224721162493 ? Don't exactly match the indo model from Guyader's book 1. 2.

They'll work. Just remove the label on the on the tongue. The originals didn't have anything on the ankle disc.
The big thing that I see with the tall ones is that the rubber sole and toe cap are very shiny. I'd go with the mid-tops until someone comes up with a better tall shaft.

Don't exactly match the indo model from Guyader's book Do you have a page reference for the shoes in Guyader's book you're referencing? The only high-shaft canvas shoes/boots I see are the US Jungle Boots. I'm barely lettered, so I may have missed it. This isn't directed at the boots you mentioned, but a more general statement: stay away from the high tops with the buckle closure as those didn't come around until the mid-'60's.

lew: they are described on page 83 and pictured on page 245. Nevertheless, I got the boots from the second photo in my previous post, it was a good deal, just hoping the size will fit.

A few years ago I got advice from a re-enactor that you can basically take a pair of modern Palladiums of any colour (as long as the rubber is black), and make them green with Blanco? No idea if this was ever used on them for real?

French never bothered with Blanco, but that could definitely work.
Thanks for the reference, astone!

I told one of our guys that Palladium has a store in the Galleria here in Houston that sells the original splasher. I couldnt find mine for the event this past weekend, so I'm going to head to Palladium (if they are still in biz - the galleria is now a free fire zone owned by Houston gangs) and see if I can pick up a pair.

I would like to hear your opinions about these used, modern Palladiums that are being offered locally for cheap. The color of the canvas is perfect, but what about the brownish soles & toecaps? Acceptable for Indochina and/or Algeria?

I didn't find any 100% correct modern pataugas, so I decided to bleach my deep-green (modern) Palladium Pampa's with a 50/50 mix of bleach and water, applied with a toothbrush. Immediately after finishes I rinsed the whole shoe in fresh tapwater to get rid of the bleach, as it works immediately. I'm quite pleased with the result, and I think they can be used for both Indochine and Algerie:
I kept the original green laces, but I might replace those for black ones. I also waterproofed them to a certain degree with candle wax after drying. The small tags were removed

No opinion about color etc?

The color looks pretty good. Better than the dark green anyways. ;-)

Thanks, I think they'll do fine then. Rubber parts are dark green but I think that could be reasonably correct.
