I've never considered myself much of a materialist, but hunting down aggressively that one last piece to really pull of an impression is a great joy.

Hey guys, I d like to bring more life to this topic below is a small presentation of Mle51 canteens. To confirm that it is a shitty piece of crap.... tends to rust heavily and tining does not help neither - I dont even want to imagine what happens if you put the canteen on the flame.... (itz also explaines why US canttens are still visible even in Algeria) - two halfs can be unsolded even using your home solding equipment. however - few notes on those - the cork is attached 2 ways - either the bottom plate is screwed on, either its solded. So far I came across two producers - JAP and C? B MOULIN? hard to read.....some of those have no producer marks at all. the covers are so far three types for this canteen - 1st type - as I assume - is the brownish one, with nipple dots (lift the dot), flaps in one piece with the cover second type - also with "nipple dots" (lift the dot) but more greeny and the flaps are separated from the main body third type - same as previous one, only has the standard press dots. All of those have only two loops on the back - no wire hooks..... its a pain in the a** trying to put those on the tap50-53 belt- the buckles cannot go through... I had to undo the buckle - put on the cover and then sew it back together. But no problem with TAP50 or US M36 belt (the buckles are much smaller) The canteens have problem to fit the holster even when the lowe cap is not in place - I always have to ask someone to press the canteen back into the cover cause its impossible since you have on the belt on your back.... and yes - I ll stop buying those now I have enough I guess..... I didnt even take the photo of the one I ve repaired and repainted (it was heavily rusted)
