I'd really like to participate on this board. But every question I've asked or comment made has been ignored.
Is there anyone, but lurkers on this forum?
I've been on this forum for about a month and I haven't even gotten a welcome.
What gives?

Yes, some users are still here.
I am working on a different impression currently, but for 2014 we have 2 nice FICW-events.
When we are staring to prepare some pics will follow.

After lurking for a few months, I just signed up today. I'll do my part to add what I know and stimulate some discussion. My focus is the Algerian War, but it's really best to view them as one conflict, at least as far as arms, tactics, equipment, etc... So, here I am!
I'm in southeast Michigan.

Thanks! Just a little frustrating to try to participate and ask questions and just hear crickets for weeks is very disconcerting...

be happy, in winter I have more time for the hobby. During summer I have to work a lot, and I think that is the problem for most uf us.
Now I am on work to finish my colonial walking out dress (based on a Britsh khaki bush jacket) and a some other items.
And finally we will have a nice event in May 2014, and for it we are preparing to build a buddhist temple as a Command Post for our group...

Thanks much! It appears that I'm solo so far here in the Pacific NW. I'm gathering my kit. I just acquired a nice MAS 36/51. I just need to decide on uniform. I think I'll go with the US/UK camo. The TAP 47/50 (?) is just hard to find especially large enough to fit me at 6'4" and 215 lbs.

I am choosing my suit after the scenario. I am fortunate to reenact US and British WW2, too, so I have a lot of items in stock for use in the FICW-events.
In the 1953/1954 Events I am wearing the standard green Mle47, but for earlier scenarios or airborne impressions I am using US camos or british windproof.

Where did you find your British Windproof? I've fond some repros out of Singapore (?) but not very sure if they're accurate.

I am also curious as to where you got the windproof uniform. I'd love to have a set, preferably repro, as I'd feel guilty trashing originals.

For reenacting I am using only repros. Only my mle 47 suit is original, but these are available in big numbers. I have one set of each version for my collection and a suit for reenacting.
I bought my windproof shirt at silverman´s in GB, in my opinion the best repro on the markt, but they didn´t sell trousers.
Some of my mates have the panzerfaust-repros from Asia. good quality, but too much polyester fabric. WPG is not making them, the WPG-ones were not that bad after several wasches.

If I can't get the whole ensemble, I'm not going to bother.
I have four sets of Mle. 47/52 TTA uniforms. I thought about getting a repro Denison smock, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

That's too bad about panzerfaust, those were the ones I was lookin' at. Unfortunately every time I find 47/52 to fit my 6'4" body the price shoots up at auction...

Yes, the sizes. I am a 44R, even this size is becoming rarer.
But some of us using the US OD HBT suit, so no real problem for Indochina reenactment.

In your opinion would usin' the US camo HBT jacket and the OD HBT trousers work alright?

Depends on the impression.
We are mainly portaying infantry (Colo and Legion), and so the olive HBT´s would be better. But of course there are a lot of pics of US HBT camos mixed with OD HBT in use by para units.
There are pics of this mixture in "Les Paras en Indochine", too.

By preference I'd be doin' para, but it will depend some on if I can scare up any interest in my area (Pacific NW). Right now I'm a unit of one.

True enough... I'm not gonna panic. I have a connection with some WWII re-enactors and I might see if they have an interest to try something a little different.

If they are US or Brit reenactors it would be not problem to "update" to French without high cocts.
That was my step into FICW, too. But then, it will be expensive ;D

Yup... I'm also building a Foreign Legion in Mexico (1863) as well... There's a lot of money flowing out...

I'd like to see that impression. The French expedition to Mexico is a fantastic illustration of the importance of strategic, tactical, and cultural/political intelligence, or, more to the the point, how a lack of those will kick one's ass.
The good thing about being the only unit member is that it's easy to keep the troops in line...
...sometimes. ;D

You got that right Lew, both the expedition, and keepin' the troops in line... ;D

Interesting impressions here. Beside French Indochina I am working an a WW1 French Foreign Legion impression. Yes, too many ideas with too less money... ;D

I had to sell my R1 (FN FAL) so I wouldn't be inclined to assemble Rhodesian Bush War kit. And you thought French collecting was difficult and expensive. Hah! Same goes for some Australian web gear I had. The desire to get an L1A1 and the full uniform was too great. I decided to concentrate on French stuff, not that it's saved me any money. ;D

I am collecting ANZAC Vietnam. Thatßs why I just bought a L1A1 from Australia, deacticated, unfortunately. That´s me, last year.
