My local surplus store has a bunch of M47 tops that run in differing shades from this.. to this.... they are in a size "46" from differing mfr's in France for $7.95.....good buy or not?....of course they are still too small for my 2X self....(stop eating, stop eating)...but i was thinking of getting these for my smaller team mates.....would they be correct?and does the shade differences make that much of a difference? of course, i still can't find the matching pants anywhere......

The lower pic represent a model made in the 60's-my father had such one while doing military duties in 1965-.....The things differencing it form a model used in Indochina is the additional canvas piece at the collar and buttons are aluminium ones.... The upper pic seems a pattern used in Algeria....

Guys,
An excellent find. They are indeed Mle 47 jackets. However, they are of the later, Mle 47/52 pattern which featured the two 'bellows' pockets on the skirts. On the first pattern of the Mle 47 all four pockets are internal (like the top two on the above jackets). Sadly enough the 47/52 was never issued in Indochina and was reserved for issue to Metropolitan units in France, Algeria and NATO countries. It is very much identified with the French conscript infantry of the Algerian war.
For 7.95 they are a bargain, as you cannot find them on ebay.fr for less than 20 euros usually. Get yourself a nice condition, early date, and you have a ready to go Algerian war jacket.

so go for the darker olive shades and early dates......would the date be in the label stamped inside under the collar?... so for straight out FICW i should stick with the US hbts i already have?..i just find the hbts to be so much thinner, materialwise, than these...they are thicker than the M51 field pants we use in the field for AS...... also is there a source for the matching M47 pants stateside? and as per the pockets...would taking off the bottom ones look better? sorry for all the questions...it's just been hard to find affordable uni's for this impression here in the states...i'm trying to save for some CDBs...lol..
