I got bored of trying to take kit composition photos in my back yard so I went all hardcore on Photoshop and produced some photos like in the new 'Histoire & Collections' Indochina book... Here are two sets of back & front views of my impressions of FM gunners from 3e BCCP and the 1er BEP, listing various items of kit used in the different periods. I'll be putting them together for some of the other units like the 6e BPC and the colonial infantry.

I am in Florida with Dad ... and just surfed in to see whats up and just saw the pics. WOW. Cookie, you've gone above and beyond. Pics are great ... how you cut around the figure to make it "pop" is excellent. Permission to upload them!

Mick:
If Cookie doesnt mind us copying his technique for the AFCWA website I think this would be a good way to depict our 3e BCCP and 5th SF Special Forces Unifority/equipment requirements.
The way he does this and the way the magazine presents the individuals says more in one or two pics than reading a whole list of equipment. And it gives a much better impression to the reader as well.

It appears I remember seeing a photo or a diagram of the sling/folding stock assembly somewhere....I will go back through all my downloaded stuff and see if I can find it. Will try to jog my memory and see if I remember where I had seen it initially.

Guys, I just took the photos as usual in the back yard. Then uploaded them nto photoshop on my PC. I used the free-hand 'select' tool to go round the body, then 'cut' the unselected bits. I then played around with the saturation and contrast. Feel free to sue them. I'm going to put some more together when I have the time.

Nice pics Cookie!!!! As usual some critics, sorry!!!!Or formulated otherwise, some "recommendations".... Regarding the 3e BCCP pic,you can use a Model 1935 pouch for the FM mags...The mags pouch used for the 1er BEP and 6e BPC is in fact a pouch for rifle grenades but given the difficulty-even in France-to find 1950/53 TAP models for FM,do not take it as a blame please... Do not forget that FM guy has always a side arm and regardless of the time frame,a british m-1937 pouch is always welcome for the FM cleaning kit. For a nice TAP M 47/51 camo set check Panzerfaust seller on E**Y....The 1 on the pics you got at "What price G***Y" I presume..... Off topics:If you know where to get another MAS 36 LG 48 rifle like yours,I could be interested....

Marsouin, If you look closely I am wearing a sidearm... In the 3e BCCP photos I am wearing a German P38 in Black leather WWII holster. In the Legion photo I am wearing a MAC 35 in a Mle 48 leather holster. The same for the 6e BPC photos. I am also aware that the musette is the Mle 50 for LG48 grenades. I got it for that purpose but hadn't at that point got a FM musette, which I do now. It was a 'field expediency'. The grenade musette had the interior dividers removed so I thought it would do to put FM magazines in sideways. I'll post photos of the FM TAP musette next week. Funnily enough, both are, as you say, very hard to find even in 50/53 pattern. Both mine are Mle 50, which is great. I got the MAS 36 LG48 from www.jcmilitaria.com I've not seen one anywhere else in the UK though. The tenue de saut is the WPG one. Bought a couple of years ago. It isn't the best pattern but it does for photoshoots (See my Dien Bien Phu thread). I've been focusing on original webbing and weaponry for a while so haven't got round to swapping it out for one of the better PzFaust suits. My collection and knowledge of the subject is improving daily so watch this space.

Cookie, question on the 3e BCCP LMG:
Is that an M1 helmet or French M51?
Love the airborne straps ... just gives it that "look."
Then again, I think Doc and I favor the 3e BCCP!

Cookie,
How did you cut the outline of each figure for the series? Does photoshop have a layout for that?

Did you get your USMC P44 jacket from Spearhead? Where did you get your mle 50 jump boots too because I'm having a hard time finding some.

Guys sorry for the delay...
Mick - it is of course a US M1 infantry helmet with theatre added 'A' frames. Would I wear a Mle 1951 helmet for a 1950 impression??? I'm hurt...
Lots of photos of 3e BCCP wearing M1928 doughboy packs in the field. Usually with a mix of US and Brit P37 belt and straps etc.
To cut around the figure on 'Photoshop' I used the 'freehand' outline tool. It looks on the tab like a squiggly dotted line, in a lassoo shape.
Karl - the boots are Italian 1990's issue paratrooper boots. They are almost (Almost!) the same as French Mle 50 pattern. The only immediate differences are the tread pattern and the lack of an added heel reinforcement on the outside of the Italian boots. Otherwise they pass quite well in photos and displays. I got mine off a French dealer at Stoneleigh show but you can try to get them off of eBay.it by typing in variations of: anfibi militari paracadudisti folgore. Unfortunately I could find a dealer who'd ship outside of Italy. No matter how much postage I offered. Weirdo's. The USMC P44 is from Barry LYndon/Spearhead off eBay. It is ok for the price. The material is a bit thin and the colours are a little 'pink'.The press studs on the chest pockets are also quite cheap. Otherwise, with a little washing out and dirtying they are good to go.
