Question:
Was the Lizard pattern Model 47/56 Helmet cover ever worn during the First Indochina War?

No. It wasn't. It was not worn until well after the Algerian war was started. It wasn't worn during the Suez Canal Crisis in 1956 either. I'm not big on the Algerian war but I know it was worn later on, possibly 58-59 onwards, although never in any great numbers. The only 'official' covering for helmets during Indochina was the US 1944 net with neoprene band. This was copied by the french and issued well into the Algerian war as well.

There are many pictures of this cover being used during jump training at BETAP or Pau, France during the Algerian War, but few were used in the field.
