Hi, in the book "Piste sans fin" which is a photo book of (Para?) Troops in Algeria, I've found this picture. I thought it might be interesting that still in Algeria (don't know when the pic was taken, but most probably later in the war) Denisons were worn. With best regards, Turner

Turner:
It does look like one. There is also a pic of Captain Pichelin (8th SHOCK) wearing a British WWII Denison at Dien Bien Phu.

It is one - 2nd Pattern - the seam up the front is a pointer. The second Para is interesting - Toutes Armes Jacket with TAP Trousers...

I remember more DBP pics with Denisons, but I thought these were out-dated in Algeria, especially with the lizzard suits introduced fpor the whole unit. I think that mixture of Toutes Armes Jacket with TAP Trousers is quite common on the pics in the book. Unfortunately it is not mentioned when the pics were taken. Otherwise a nice book! www.amazon.com/Piste-sans-fin-G%C3%A9n%C3%A9ral-Bigeard/dp/2733906941With best regards, Turner

They may have been outdated, but Squaddies being Squaddies, they tend to keep a hold of their favourite kit, even if it was for the field...After all Bigeard preferred his Sausage Skins in the Bled. The guy in the Denison could be either an Officer or a Senior Rank, judging by the map and the Rad Op next to him.

Huzzah! That means my Denison may get a bit more use than I thought.

Huzzah! That means my Denison may get a bit more use than I thought. I think for Legion paras and Colo paras the Denison is very good for Indochina. The Metro paras were the first to get official 47/51 lizzard suits, so that few Denisons might have survived in duty. Regards, Turner

I know this post is for Algeria, but for Indo, I haven't seen that many pics of Denisons. The vast majority of pre-47/51 Lizard uniforms I have seen were the various 'frogskin' designs (the US Marines Pattern 44 in particular - all patterns available from Spearhead on Ebay) and the Survetement 42. Better to stick with those I would have thought for Indo. Salut, David .

Tomorrow I'll have access to a scanner. Then I'll scan some pics of Denisons in Indochina. I think that there were many more pics of Denisons in Indochina than in Algeria. Regards, Turner

Sh..! The linking from ECPAD didn't work. I'll try to post them once more. But believe me there were at least these 7 pics with Denisons being worn in Indochina! And I found another one in a book: Regards, Turner

Great pic ... I have seen that photo before, but I am wondering if its mis-captioned to 3e REI. I think it may be a BCCP, part of the newly arrived 6e BCP or part of 8th Shock..... I see airborne boots, the MAS36/CR39 and red ? berets....
Oui? Non?

The beret badge looks very much like this one: I think the 3eme REI wasn't equipped with MAS 36 CR 39s. But at least they're wearing a nice mixture of Denisons with Garand belts and M1936 suspenders. It looks a lot like they were popular with the Marine Infantry...

Yeah nice pictures there, plenty of Denison smocks being worn by the 8th Shock at DBP. Bigeard was still wearing his converted Brit windproofs in Algeria so why not others wearing Denisons???

the 8e Choc was equipped with Denison for 1953-54 (and indeed during the battle of DBP) The pics of the Marine unis are from 1946,it is the Commando Ponchardier (Commando Marine) that was in action in Cochinchine with the CLI at the very beginning of the return of French in 1946....
