The serial number is something that confuses me. I haven't seen the gun in person. The man that sent me these pics says the prefix letter is a J but it doesn't look like a J to me, more like an M. There is an A on the right side of the serial number. It is not in line with the numbers but is sort of cockeyed. Not sure what to make of that. If the prefix letter was a J, that would mean a WW2 era gun. However, the nose cap is post War. Maybe it's a parts gun. Looks like an L on the barrel and I don't know what that would indicate. I have watched videos about the Mas 36 and checked out pics on the net. None of them had an A stamped on the right of the serial number nor an L on the barrel.

What's the rear sight look like? Looks post-War from that picture, but I can't see the aperture area. Regardless, with the iterative improvements and the relaxed production schedule, I'm of the mind that post-War -36's are an all-around better rifle. If the condition of the rifle is consistent with those pictures, and you've lined up the missing parts, I'd snag it for $250. Both my -36's and the -36/51 are excellent shooters. Do you have a picture of the "A" marking?

The A is on the right side of the serial number. It's a little hard to see unless you magnify the picture. Still curious about that and the L on the barrel. The man paid $250 for the gun but he isn't going to sell it for that. He wants me to make an offer. I'd like everyone with some knowledge of the Mas 36 to tell me what they think.
