Just finished watching this on line. This version was in French (of course) and the only subtitles were in Portuguese. Made for an interesting watch since I couldn't turn the subtitles off. Good action scenes in this one compared to Dien Bien Phu. I thought the guilt scenes were a bit much and the ending was weak. Overall though not too bad.

I thought the combat scenes and equipment were exceptional. The harsh desert lighting was unlike most other war movies and contrasted with the very dark themes. The ending could have been better, but said ending relays that so much was left unanswered and unfinished. The movie really gets across to the viewer the massive trauma this conflict caused to everyone involved. As far a France is concerned, Indochina was on the other side of the world and of lesser importance culturally and economically. Algeria was much closer to home in every sense. The effects of the war still ripple through the Middle East and Africa.
