With the preponderance of fighting knives, trench knives, bayonets, and the like in French service in Indochina and Algeria, has anyone come across any accounts of soldiers or sailors actually making use of them to take on an opponent? Nothing is jumping out at me, but I may have possibly read about bayonets being employed at Dien Bien Phu. Even then, hand grenades, mortars, and MGs were in much greater demand. Seems to me this class of knife was more status symbol and security blanket, with the user gaining far more practicality from a Douk Douk or Opinel pocket knife. That said, yes I have a bunch because knives and bayonets are fun.

Interesting question! I don't think I've ever come across an account that documents the use of a fighting knife in that fashion. Hmmm... Now I'm gonna have to go back and look...

I think there would have to at least been mention of some sentry running through a VM, or the like. I can't remember coming across a single one.
