Other than among commando units did the Thompson submachine gun see much action in the Indochine War?

yep, you can see it especially till 51-52, later on it was quickly replaced by MAT49....
you can see thompsonalmost amongst all troops - paras, infantry,.... but its not as common as m1 carbine....

Basically, you can't go wrong with an M1 Carbine for any sort of troops till the end of Algeria

Thompsons were more common in Algeria, usually in the hands of second-tier units, as most of the guns were given to the French in 1955.
Early: I can't think of any units that didn't have at least a few Carbines during either conflict.

Hi STeve, in my archives the images of M1 thompsons in algeria are very scarce - compared to the photos from indochina..... even some czech paratrooper vets from Cao Bang do recall usage of Thompsons as a quite common and regular firearm....

What units were you looking at? The paras and the like didn't get many, but Commandos de Chasse, Tirailleurs, line infantry, and support units had plenty.

I have yet to see anything for the Thompson. Looks like MAT-38/-49 pouches- in leather or canvas- were used.

I have yet to see anything for the Thompson. Looks like MAT-38/-49 pouches- in leather or canvas- were used. I assume that using british PAT37 pouches will not do any harm as well.... also there is french made universal/thompson pouch that is straight copy of us one...

At least for early war, P37 would work with some units. I have not seen a French copy of the US SMG mag pouch- which hardly means they didn't exist- but I'd assume they'd use the leather and TAP50 canvas pouches if available. Cheers!

Would the Thompson mags fit in those, being for a bigger calibre than 9mm?

The pouches I have are pretty generous, so I would assume so.
