I just got confirmation the TAP 47/53 jacket is original!

Now the hunt is on for a pair of TAP 47/56 trousers that actually fit...

I've seen quite a few 47/56 sets over the years. The set I have is a 30 waist and that seems to be pretty common. Larger sizes though are harder to find.

The 2 pairs I already have seem to be around 30-32 waist indeed. I need a 36 waist, which is 46 cm when laying flat.

Excellent haul, David!
I have a civilian pair of French binoculars. The glass is excellent, and I'll sometimes take them along when I go for a hike.

Actually David, that is an enlisted kepi. At the time the white cover was still used. An NCO kepi would have a gold grenade, and chinstrap. A white cover is fairly easy to fashion. At least it looked easy when my wife put one together... :-)

I guess it's time to blow the dust of grandma's old sewing machine and hope a simple white sheet won't be missed then! ) Anyone have an original cover they could post some pics of as a reference? There are a few photos in the Guyader book but not really close-up.

Liberated an old sheet from the dog's basket and started to work on a coiffe blanche. Turns out grandma's sewing machine has some issues so I'm relegated to hand sewing; my experience in that is limited to buttons and patches so this could be fun. The easy part is done, now I have to figure out how to add a top part neatly...

After a hiatus of a few years I went to the large Ciney show again yesterday and got some good buys, which are below: A pair of Lizard shelter halves (one dated 1955, the other one unmarked), a sac a dos without frame and best of all, a size 58 khaki chapeau de brousse in unusued condition but with Zahal marking that I want to remove. I have size 60 but it fits large so I can wear it. The box of Mollé shavingcream is mint and for my US WW2 collection.
2 books published by Gazette des Uniforms, full of pics and information.
A Mle. 50 canteen minus the cork, but with the 1st model cover and the cup, which is the main reason I bought the set even though it misses a handle. It was cheap.
The leather parts of the sac a dos I got earlier have dried out beyond rescue and are weak now, so I took the frame of that one and put it on this one as it is in very good, used condition. The other one I can still use for display, even without frame.

Awesome snags. The pack and one shelter half look outstanding.

Only one? :lol
The pattern and base colour seems to be a bit different between the two, I'll have to get out my other two halves out and compare.
There was some TAP Lizard-pattern clothing, but usually way over-priced (€250 for a TAP 47/56 jacket with 'original' 1er REP stamp at the inside). There were plenty of leather suspenders and ammo pouches, but not that much webbing gear actually. I did find one collector/stallholder with whom I had a nice chat and bought one of the shelter halves and the books from, he had some nice things and his prices were decent but ofc he was in one of the last rows at the last hall and it was closing time...
Next time I'll get some leather gear too, I saw them as low as €3 per item, for infantry use but I need to study up on the variants first.

And a follow-up question, I now have 4 Lizard zelts and I got a cheap set of Swiss poles but what pegs were used? I guess a set of German WW2 pegs would work but what did the French have? Can't find anything about that in my books.

I have a picture somewhere. The official issues were the "sardine" shaped tent pegs with a notch for the cordage. In reality, you could use anything period appropriate- aluminum ex-Wehrmacht, wooden tapered cylindrical, or steel US-type (with a "C" cross section) pegs.
I have five of the Mle. 51 toile de tente pieces. There are three different shades, and the Mle. 56 shelter halves add yet another.
I came perilously close to shelling out €300 for a TAP 47-56 jacket with an 11e BPC stamp. As much as I favor that unit, that scratch was spent more wisely assembling many other pieces for my collection.

Thanks, I found some pics online now. I have a bunch of the British wooden pegs but they seem a lot bigger. Anyway, it won't be much of a problem to get period-correct ones and for Indo-China I can use one of my WW2 US puptents... which I thoroughly detest.
On another matter, anyone know a good way to remove a big Zahal marking from a khaki chapeau de brousse? I tried some nailpolish remover (without acetone) and it just spread the ink around instead of lifting it.

I got a near mint khaki Mle. 1949 Chapeau de Brousse in my size that unfortunately has a faint but noticeable Zahal marking, anyone know how to safely remove it?

Where is the Tsahal marking? Perhaps dying over it might work, but I don't anyway to lift the ink without destroying the cotton.
