Anyone ever seen documented evidence of bandoleers for transporting ammo? I have one that is WWII for M1 carbine 15 round mags and is a system I like to use to carry extra in a simple fashion- slings high and tight to the ribs, and gravity pulls loaded magazines down to the bottom of the ribcage and easy to retrieve. Any thoughts or evidence?

I can't recall seeing any photographs showing bandoliers bein' used. But it's one of those things I wouldn't find unusual. I'll do some lookin' and see if there's any photos.

I can't recall seeing a picture of bandoleers in French service during any time period.
I see your point: bandoleers are great for bolt action rifles and stripper clips. Somewhat related, I prefer chest rigs for my FAL and AR mags.

Actually, in the 19th century the Legion used belly boxes for cartridges, and there is illustrations of a chest rig used in the late 19th century for cartridges. Not bandoliers, granted, but a similar device.

Something akin to the cloth bandoleers used at the time in US and UK service is something I've yet to see. There's that leather cartridge belt for 8mm Lebel with the pouches arrayed around the belt and on the shoulder brace that saw service in the early 20th Century in North Africa.

Stop that or face banishment forthwith.
I don't mind being proven wrong, but I have not seen any evidence, but that's the fun in piecing together the past.

Yeah, it just doesn't seem to be a practice that French troops engaged in. Or now that I think about it, I don't think any continental troops used bandoliers. I think the only ones that did were U.S. or U.K..

Afrikaans in the Boer War were using similar rigs. Leather, perhaps? I just like the fact I can conveniently pull a loaded mag and still have several on the belt at the same time. I have deep interest in later MACVSOG operations where Recon was armed to the teeth... Merci Beaucoup! ---Toussant

Merci, Hoover!
I thought maybe someone might use these, if available... Glad to see the fellow also carries the folding version of the M1 carbine- my personal favorite longarm!
