Bonjour mes nouveaux comrades,
I just recently found this board and joined today, and I would like to introduce myself. Although new here, I am not new to living history/reenactments or the French army in this period. I have a WWI British impression and a fairly significant collection of original French uniforms and equipment for Indochine and Algerie. I didn't know there was any such thing as reenactments for this period, so I am a little intrigued. I am very interested in learning from you all and exchanging information.
Personally I've spent the past 28 years in the US military (the first 11 in the army, and the past 17 in the air force) and just recently moved to southern Georgia (Moody AFB) from Germany (Ramstein AB).
Cordialement,
Jeff

Jeff
Welcome to the forum. I spend 4 years in the Black Forest, been out for about two years. Enjoy the forum and while we're spread out, it's a great group of guys.

Bienvenue à notre forum, M. Jeff. Je vis en Arizona. There was an effort to do a Dien Bien Phu event a few months ago, but a bunch of dipshits bailed on their commitment and jumped ship to another event. Reenactors are not known for their reliability, though. Anyway, things are usually slow around here, but we check in regularly. Please peruse the forums and ask away with any questions or share any relevant info you come across. Salut!

Lew:
I don't want to pick fly pooh out of pepper but the army spent too much money trying to teach me to learn French with an English accent so I'll try to help. Je vis en Arizona is not quite correct, it's more of a literal translation like 'I live in something (like a box)'. If you 'live'someplace the better verb is 'habite' as in "J'habite en Arizona". Sure it sounds like I habitate in Arizona but c'est la vie.
Steven (Claire my phonetics teacher would be proud) 'Steevon yu speek Franch weeth han Hinglish hackcent".

I last took French class when I was in the 8th grade, and I didn't learn much then. I've been teaching myself over the years to good effect, but formal instruction is on the list. Reading it is easy; formulatin' and speaking is where I need practice. I do appreciate the correction, so I won't ban you this time, ya rotten Canuck. I cringe when I hear French Canadian, though.
All right, enough of the spotlight on me: Jeff, have you pictures of your collection? We like pictures around here.

Lew, I'm sure my collection is modest in comparison to the members of this board. Unfortunately our household goods are still in shipment from Germany, though apparently it's now in a warehouse here in Georgia. They will come and deliver everything (to include my militaria collection) in about two weeks. But I do have a few items already photographed, to include the FTEO-marked LE beret in my avatar and these items. The Tenue Peau de Saucisson is particularly nice since both top and bottom feature Algiers tailor markings. Jeff

Absolutely stellar items! The condition of that peau de saucisson set is remarkable. Is the helmet original?
Cheers!

Thank you Lew, Yes, the helmet is original, down to the sponge in the crown. Here are few more photos of it. Jeff

We need smaller pictures; those are far too large.

Toussaint,
I don't have it in front of me, but I believe it is the fourragere de la Médaille militaire.

Bienvenue, monsieur. We would love to hear of your experiences, which I think would warrant a separate thread.
I read Wolves in the City: The Death of French Algeria not too long ago. It is a gripping read, and it really captures the chaos and violence.
Salut!
