Greetings all,
Stumbled across this board quite by accident over Thanksgiving. I didn't know that there was such a thing until , while doing some research on the Indo_China war I found this. Have done some reenacting in the past with some folks out of Sacramento and Reno, We did SS, 1st Army, 15th mechanized Afrika,.and HG bomb squadron 8th Airforce.
Have been collecting military stuff off and on since high school. Started the French tropical when i picked up a French bush coat from an ad in Shotgun News. Don't have a ton just yet, but I have already learned a great deal here. Big Crossroads of the West Gun Show coming up so, at least I have an idea what to look for.
Also, don't rule out The Sportsmans Guide, as source. I picked up an unissued Bush hat, I think its the m49 if I have it correctly the correct one in any event. For about $30 bucks a few years ago, and a bunch of M47 blouses/jacket for cheap.
Hope to learn a great deal more as time goes along.
Regards,
Keane

Monsieur Keane, bienvenue sur notre forum. I hope you enjoy your stay. It can get rather slow, but people keep coming back and posting good info. I just got the keys to my house today, so, once I'm settled in and organized, I'll be posting some more impression pictures. Are you in AZ? I'm in North Phoenix. I wanted to make the Crossroads show, but I have way to much shyte to take care of. Next year... My focus is on 1e RPC, 8e Choc, and GCMA in Indochina, and 1e RPC, 15e RTS/75e RIMa, and 11e Choc in Algeria (Arizona makes a wonderful stand-in for North Africa). Definitely feel free to ask questions. We are all about authenticity around here (we're nice about it, though... usually ), and we like to help other folks get their kit in order. We're always learning something new, too. That said, peruse the older threads in case something has been covered already. The de facto bible of Indochine/Algérie collecting and reenacting is comprised of the following three tomes: Les Paras français en Indochine 1945-1954 et Les Paras français en Algérie 1954-1962 by Éric Adam and Patrice Pavetta. These two are actually two volumes of one work. There is a lot of overlap. (French language only. It's easy to figure it out. Have Google Translate on standby.) The third is The French Foreign Legion in Indochina 1946-1956 by Raymond Guyader. (available in French or English) While the subject matter is the Legion (and that's fine if you want to focus on the FFL), much if the uniforms and equipment are shared by other units, particularly the parachute units. The Osprey books on Indochina and Algeria are also good for visuals. There is a Dien Bien Phu event planned for June 2016 in Kansas. My brother, buddy, and I are going to be the 8e BPChoc contingent. Cheers! -Steve

Howdy and welcome!
Basically what Steve said. The older threads are a wealth of information. If you don't find what you're lookin' for, start a thread. We're full of..., information and useless opinions.

Thanks to all, I am curious tho, does this site still have an administrator? I looked at the previous visit and it was July of 2013. Is it possible that he passed?
I know that this board pretty much runs its self. However, I was going to suggest a new area, and it appears that there is no one to suggest it to.
Additionally, there will probably come a time, that whom ever has this board on their server will want some money to keep it there.
Having just found it, I'd hate to show up one day and find it gone..........
Does anyone else have any input, suggestions, or further information???

If my memory serves correctly (the odds aren't good), Mick (formerly Legion Étrangère, now schmutz) forgot his login credentials. Ergo, the site is leaderless. Anarchy! He checks in from time to time, so send him a message or I can give you his e-mail address. What was your suggestion?

Since we haven't been able to find anyone to give us the controls. (Prolly a wise thing...) Mick and I were talking about setting up a new forum and transferring the contents of this forum over, as well as expanding it to officially include Algerie. Stay tuned for further developements...

Well, something you posted regarding an event, got me thinking that we could use an event area. Some place to post events so that folks interested in attending and/or participating would look, and possibly connect with other folks. It would be nice to learn about a future event so that vacation or leave time could be arranged well in advance. Also the preparations of course to get the gear , transportation and so on. Just kind of thinking, I don't know how many Indo-China events are held every year in the US or other countries, or even how often. It would be interesting to know and sort of keep tabs on whats going on. I suspect there might be bunches of other folks interested..... Proof? Ok look how prices on Indo-China stuff has blown up. In any event, I would like to see a place to swap and/or sell extra gear. Or even get leads on which dealers have what. Right now when it comes up in a post then it's there, but sometimes to find it again can be a pain. Perhaps some sort of master directory or list. In any case as the newbie here, I just kind of trying to learn my way around and find out more about how things work. Regards, Keane

Note to Lew,
Crossroad show was kinda so,so. I haven't been for about 5 years and this seemed smaller than the one that I went to 5 years ago. At that time they had one building that was , probably mostly militaria and machine guns. This year not much in militaria at all. Lots and lots of tacticool. AR and much contemporary camo gear. Oh well, maybe next time.

Kinda disappointing, but I look at it as cheap entertainment.

let me tell you about cheap entertainment. $8.00 parking and $18.00 admission . Or to put it another way 50 rounds of ammo.
I think I'm going to make an effort to hit the Pamona Military show next May.
