Greetings All,
I have been interested in the Vietnam Conflict since I was a kid. My father enlisted in the Navy in 1968 and shipped off to Da Nang with the Marines. As a kid I would sneak into his photos from his tour there. As I got older I remained interested in that conflict but got involved in Living History with the National Park Service (primarily 1860's 70's US Cavalry). As a Park Ranger I studied a LOT of military history but never pulled away from my interest in Vietnam.
It was in Carlsbad Caverns NP that I jumped into the French Indochina War. I had received my first Park Service command and began studying leadership in the military to get an idea of good & bad leaders. As I skimmed through microfilm (yes I said microfilm... I'm an old dude) I ran into an article on Benard Fall's book "Hell in a very small place". So I grabbed a copy. Since then I have been delving into the French Indochina War, collecting military artifacts, and sharing what I learn and find via graphic media, service training, and the up bringing of my children (my daughter is in the Civil Air Patrol and wants to fly the DC-3s that supply our small communities and my son is a Paratrooper in the Army stationed in Anchorage).
I am now trying to figure out which unit I want to make an impression of. I have a rather mixed collection and would love advice on what I might be able to pull off.
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
