Hello all!
I am a WWII reenactor who has been fascinated by La guerre d’Indochine since I was young. After I had been in WWII reenacting for a while I figured I would try and put together an Indochina impression, now I can't stop myself. I apologize if it's too farby but my impression is not 100% complete yet but there is always more work to do.
Merci groupe!

Bienvenue sur notre forum!
I'm going to get this out of the way and ruthlessly pick apart your kit that I can see:
1) Your uniform is the tenue TAP Mle. 47/56, which is excellent for the Algerian War, but a no-go for Indo. 2) The MAS Mle. 36, your bush hat (chapeau de brousse)*, grenade pouch, and the ammo pouch (Just one? They were always worn in pairs) are good. The brown sling on the rifle is excellent. 3) The US M36 web belt is fine for Indo , but French Mle. 50 and 50/3 (the latter is easily available) had fully replaced it after the war in SE Asia ended. 4) If those are black pebble grain French boots, they are the Mle. 65 and too late for either war.
In summation, you have the makings of a first-rate Algerian War impression (my focus), and a bit of work ahead for and Indo impression. The good news is that Algeria-era equipment is much easier to find and cheaper. If you,re interested, their might be time left to jump in on our tenue TAP Mle. 47/52 (seen at the end of Indo/beginning of Algérie, most common French camo at Dien Bien Phu) group buy. PM me for details, but act quickly.
Where in Louisiana are ya? I was down in NO around Christmas. Neat state.
Read through some of the recent introduction threads in this subforum as there has been a lot of quality information posted by myself and others. If anything has been left unanswered, please ask away. We are happy to help.
*The tan/khaki ("sable" [sand] in French) chapeau de brousse Mle. 49 was the standard for Indochina. The olive drab version appeared between the wars in the middle of 1954 and was far more prevalent in Algeria.

Bonsoir!
Poke around there's a lot of good information here. Have you thought a bout a unit yet? That'll help toward what kit you'll want to get first. We're full of opinions here, so wade right in!

Bonsoir! Have you thought a bout a unit yet? This is a good place to start. With that uniform, you can do pretty much any Algerian War para unit (plus a few non-airborne units as well), but some units had unique items or different proportions of different uniforms at various points throughout the war.

Thanks for all the help everyone!
lew: I kinda hoped I would be able to do both Algeria and Indochina with the amount of equipment I have thus far. Sounds like I'll have to choose which to pursue first and plan the financing accordingly.
Just across the lake from New Orleans actually. Indeed it is, and the subtropical damp temperature down here in the summer makes Indochina so appealing to reenact. lol.
Craigtx: That's actually a good point, I have not yet considered looking for a unit yet because of the relative obscurity of our chosen conflict to reenact. I was always under the assumption that I wouldn't be able to find a unit anywhere near me. Does this forum have a list of units and locations that perhaps you could direct me to?

Some uniform items will overlap- British Windproof, Denison Smock (both for a select few units)- but most units were largely re-outfitted when the 47/56 uniform was introduced. TTA (all-arms, everyone other than airborne) uniforms were used throughout the 1947-1962 span. Different variations- Mle. 47, 47/52, 47/54- will obviously only work for the time after their introduction.
Here are my thoughts: If you are set with covering both wars (good plan, not hard to do), I'd get the Algeria-era stuff out of the way first, since most of it is original surplus and therefore more subject to market demands peculiar to collecting (get it while you can get it cheap, in other words). Indo gear leans more heavily toward repro items and WW2 surplus, which has a much larger, more stable market here in the US.
Something like the Mle. 50 web belt is somewhat hard to find, yet not too expensive (I got both of mine for about $20). It will work for both conflicts, as will 50/53 suspenders which are practically indistinguishable from the Mle. 50's, and they're easier to find.

What part of Louisiana are you in? There's a number of folks across the border in Texas.

Very cool! You've got some nice toys there. It's good to see some fresh people on this forum (no offense Lew and Craigtx!).
I'm in NC, but I'm too busy and lazy to travel for any events...well, if there were any events, that is! At this point, I think if there was to be an event everyone could go as "generic FIW" and it'd be satisfying enough at that.

No offense taken! I'm thrilled to see new folks and hope there's more. The more folks we get the more knowledge base we have to pull from.
