I've just found this board and joined. I am not a re-enactor but merely interested in French military history in the last hundred years or so. I live in Springfield, Virginia, just outside of Washington, DC. I'm also interested in the uniforms, weapons and equipment. I'm not sure when I my interest really took off but a visit to the Army Museum in Paris last August only intensified my curiosity. Unfortunately it was a quick visit but I did see Napoleon's tomb and a Chenellette. That made my day. We also visited other museums in Normandy. Many French soldiers patrolling in Paris. All the ones I saw were Chasseurs Alpins.

Bienvenue, monsieur Kenneth. There are only a handful of us regulars around here, but we seem to have little issue posting quality content, plus there's quite a bit of content that predates us which is a good to build from, as you've seen. While I've been from one end of the Americas to the other, Europe has been blessed to remain free of my presence. I would love to tour France, in particular, for the culture, cuisine, and history- primarily military. I can read French quite well, but I need practice speaking it. The guard and patrol duties throughout France are rotated between various infantry and other combat arms units. Might be Chasseurs Alpins this month, Foreign Legion the next, and regular infantry following. My focus is the Algerian War, with Indochina being a close second. I'm in southeast Michigan until later this year, then it's Arizona or bust. Make yerself at home and feel free to chime in with questions, comments, and knowledge. This forum is primarily dedicated to la Guerre d'Indochine, but other tangential topics are always welcome.

Bonjour!
Welcome indeed! Just have a look around, and ask about anything you need clarification on.

Yes, don't be afraid to ask away! Also, as Lew pointed out, a lot of information has already been posted throughout this forum, which can be [hopefully] found via the search button or via Google. That's why I finally jined up, as I found most of my FIW questions were being discussed here.
Welcome!
