Bonjour, Je'm appelle Todd and that's all I remember from sleeping through two years of high-school French! I am a reenactor, doing the 1st Cavalry, 1970, which is difficult in Alaska. I am also a military child and an enlistee (Future Soldier, 11X-Ray, Infantry) in the U.S. Army, so I move quite a bit - making it hard to settle into a reenacting unit. Right now I am an independent reenactor, doing as I please, and I'm looking at putting together a 3/13e DBLE at Dien Bien Phu impression together. It looks like it's going to be much more of a challenge to gather all of the equipment and uniforms for a French kit as opposed to my American kit, but I like the challenge, and maybe I'll be inspired to really learn French now!

Hi Foxy,
welcome to the show. 13 DBLE during DBP would not the biggest challange, I think. There are a lot of photos of that outfit during the battle. And INfantry is quite easy comparing to Paras.
Just look for olive US HBT or Mle47 tenues as the basic clothings. US M1 helmet (I haven´t seen 13 DBLE with French M51 helmets yet), and mainly US webbing. A good pair of pataugas boots, the bush hat and some details.
We are focussing on the late 13 DBLE (1954), so we have a lot of French standard equipment not matching for Dien.
So good luck, and we help wherever we can.
Bye from Germany Frank

Thanks for the welcome! I have a lot of research to do still. I'm also contemplating what weapon I really want - either the MAS 36 because it is inexpensive (but ammo is not), or an M1/ M1A1 Carbine, since the ammo is cheaper, and my grandpa carried one while he was in the Army. I was searching high and low for M47/53 Paratrooper uniforms and I had very few results - I should have done just a little more research, and I would have known that the 13e DBLE is Mechanized Infantry. So if HBT fatigues are alright, then I'm in business! Those are pretty cheap and common here in the U.S.
