Greetings, I have a few basic questions that maybe someone can help with! I fully admit that I am clueless, so please be kind:) On Ebay, planedesjoncs has some REPRODUCTION CHAPEAU DE BROUSSE, the green is in my size (60), but the sand colored ones are a size too small or big (59 or 61). Now, does anyone know if his sizes run small or large? How wrong would a green one be for Indochina? I've been looking for British windproof trousers in a large size, but so far replicators are the only source I've found. Does anyone know if they are good to deal with? I'm sort of leery of simply paypal-ing a payment. I'm finding M47 uniforms occasionally, but they are all very small, does anyone make repros? Right now I have a US WWII helmet; repro USMC P42's; repro US HBT's, both orig and repro US WWII webgear, and repro US double-buckle boots. What would be the most historically accurate combination? Right now I have not locked onto a specific year or unit. Does anyone have any suggestions? Before I become too annoying I will stop!

Bonsoir:
I can answer the Planedesjoncs REPRODUCTION CHAPEAU DE BROUSSE question for you. I am a size 58 and ordered a 59 which fit perfectly. So, since you are a 60, I would order a 61. Someone once told me that the Green was seen earlier than the khaki, so if true, would be correct for Indo. Can anyone confirm that? BTW-I purchased the green one and really like it.
Bonne Chance, Legionnaire

Bonne Chance, Legionnaire Thanks very much for your info! I have ordered stuff from ATF, What Price Glory, Lostbattalions, etc. and head sizing is always a crap shoot! Especially with Ebay purchases, with some makers I can wear what they label a 58 (!), yet with others a 60 will barely fit. It is great to hear from someone who knows the sizing for the Planedesjoncs chapeau de Brousse. Best Regards, Edward

We are talking in centimeters here I assume, you will have to use a cm to mesure your head minus of course a few years of shrinkage....good luck...

I look forward to getting it, don't know how long it will take to ship from France! This weekend I am going to a gun show to see if anyone has an MAS36. I saw one at the last show I attended a few months ago, but I was low on cash. If I don't see anything this weekend there is a militaria show coming up here in September.

You are welcome, I hope your chapeau de brousse arrives very soon, I have a MAS36 not for sale, I am sure you will be able to find one at a gun show, make sure that "Rosalie" "the bayonnette" is inside the riffle... If you do, try to get it in 308... Good luck !

I just looked at the M44 link pattern, this vest is a French replica of the US Hbt, you will look great with a chapeau de brousse .M1A1 carabine will be also a good choice as well...but not all French soldiers had one. You could get a Tompson 45 caliber replica, that one was a favorite of the Colonial Expeditionary Corps, don't forget the Bigeard Hat ! Good luck.

I got my chapeau de brousse in the mail today! Legionnaire was absolutely correct about the sizing. The 61 fits perfectly. If I had gotten the 60, it would be wearable, but a wee bit tighter than I prefer. I had no luck with the MAS36. I did see 2 MAS49/56s, and a very beat up MAS44 that was a bit out of my price range. There were a number of M1 carbines, but the prices were astronomical. Of course, this was a regular urban gun show that featured the usual high-end stuff. I think I may do better at the upcoming Militaria show next month. Ponchardier, that is a god idea about the Thompson replica. A couple of the guys in my WWII unit have Thompson replicas for their displays that were not too pricey and look decent. I do Living History presentations at Libraries and schools where a firearm is out of the question, so a replica would be useful.

Arrgghhh.... the side snap on my Chapeau de Brousse fell off! Looks like it was not lined up quite straight when it was installed. This is bound to happen to a few, I know. But I think about hats that must have lasted for decades, and my snap falls of in the first two hours... Talk about bad luck! Eh, I'll go to a craft store and see if I can find a replacement snap that fits. What's the saying.... adapt, improvise, and overcome?

Okay I have family in Edgecomb County, do you need a MAS-36? Hey, sorry for the late reply. I'm getting over a bad case of Walking Pneumonia.... Anyway, I am definitely in the market for an MAS-36!
