Till:
I saw that you got your avatar up and your photo up; good deal.
The photo looks good. However, where did you get your boots?
I like the rumpled look on the hat! Looks good.
1er BEP is a good impression. I dont know of any group doing that impression right now. And its a combo of Legion and Para's so a massive combo of uniforms.
Stick with the most *conservative* impression you can. Continue investigating uniforms, weapons and equipment.
Great job.

Yeah, got my Avatar up this time...I dont know why it didnt work the past two weeks but...who cares, try and fail:D
I bought the boots in a shoe shop on Texel(NL) a year ago...seem to be quiete common in the Nederlands.
I had to start with a 1er BEP because it was easy to realize by using the US gear I allready have(Re-enacting the 41st AIR(2d AD), the 502d PIR(101st.AB), and hopefully in one year the 359th IR(90tID))...In the future there will be change/expansion to the *Standard*, starting with more French/british equipment;)
Thank you for the feedback!

Till,
You'll find some great people on this forum. And, we've got several Vietnam War vet's (that I know of) and several British, French and one Vietnamese veteran!
If you have any questions, you'll find people who are very open about equipment, uniform and weapons.
Great to see you and others here!

Hi Till,
Just a few pointers, as your impression is quite good to start with...
The helmet net you have isn't quite right for the one issued in indochina but is very close, just add a modern US issue neoprene green band to it. Secondly, ditch the US medic's bag and swap it for a French Mle 1892 musette. That type of US medic bag wasn't generally worn in Indochina and was more of an Algerian war thing. Otherwise very good.

Till, No, without seeing the net close up I can't tell if it is the right one or not. It is close enough though, but you need to add the gree/OD neoprene badn to it. These can be bought off ebay very cheaply, just unstitch the cats eyes from the back. It'll then look just like the issue one. Also, the Palladium boots are fine. Pataugas were issued in such a wide variety from issue items to personal purchases that there were no end of different types worn. Your's are fine. If you're doing 1er BEP impression you need to be clear about what year of the war you are portraying. The gear you're wearing is good for 1950-51. They had the US camo jacket, like yours, US HBT trousers, also US camo trousers, US webbing mixed with British 37 pattern belts, pouches, musette packs. Your impression right now is very good for that era. Just add a British 37 pattern small pack and maybe one or two 37 pattern universal ammo pouches. During the indochina war these were altered so the belt loop was at the top on the rear. You can buy them already like that as 'MT' pouches from such places as www.sofmilitary.co.uk

Most likely ill be able to visit a dutch Militaria fair with a good advisor, hope to get some britsh/french gear over there.... I saw a small pack for sale in Krakau two months ago...for 20Zloty(5Euros...), a pity that i did not think aboud a Indochina Impression back then ;D
I dont know if I stick to the "1er BEP", It depends on the impressions of other German Indochina Reenactors.

Just remember that each battalion had a very different uniform to the others and that these uniforms changed quite a lot over the years.

It will take the same way it did with my WW2 Impression: First the whool uniform(+M41), then the Camo Uniform(41st AIR, 2d AD), then later more and more original webbing, then the M43 Para(and Infantry) uniform, in between the class A and so on and so on. We all know:
Its a never ending story;)
I fear that Ill end up with a garage holding 20 different Impressions covering 50 years of history...well, I could still bring it to an end:D

Till,
You'll find our forum the least "elite" among all the forums out there. I think its because of our ability to treat each other with respect. We've drawn some great people here (too numerous to mention) but you'll find ANY question you have with an answer ... from someone who knows what you need. We've built whole impressions here before.
