We have several of our vehicles marked in the same manner as your jeep. I'm thinking of marking my front bumper with the tri-color and numbers of the one Jeep that de Castres is photographed driving at DBP; "IC 81698" Or maybe even, "Bir Hachiem" on the front bumper.... Thoughts? ?? I've seen the same IC prefix on other French vehicles in Indochina. Should work for WWII! All of the WWII pics I have of jeeps have only a series of numbers (such as above) stenciled on the bumpers. If anything at all! Generally all I've ever seen are a set of ID numbers. I did paint a Cross of Lorraine on the right side of my jeep! Current bumper markings are for 141st regt, 36th Div. WWII. But as soon as the new paint arrives that changes! Sometimes you see some folks marking their vehicles with the old pre-WWII "card suits". Hearts, Clubs, Spades, etc. But it is my understanding that this was for armored vehicles only!!!!! There was a totally different set of markings for soft skinned vehicles. Here's a very informative link; france1940.free.fr/armee/colours.htmlBut remember this is 1940 France info. I do not think this info would work out for 1950's Indochina. It is good info, nontheless! I think your safe with the tri-color and a 5 or 6 digit number of your choosing, and that's all. The red and green Legion square should be just fine as well! This seems to be the norm. I know it doesn't sound all that romantic, with the exclusion of company, regiment, division etc. like the Americans, but it would be correct.... Renault

As you mark your vehicle numbers please post them here so that at events or in photos the data nuts do see dups. It will drive them nut as they try to count French Vehicles.

Since you won't let me use it as a Nom de Guerre, why not use Chat Noir?

Hmmm. . . Ah, yes - Clarissa. Nice girl, great legs (Ba-doing!), dark page-boy hairdo, wore a beret well, smelled nice? Doubled as/modeled for Mlle. Marie in DC Comics?

Many Thanks - I originally wanted to find out the big differences between Jeeps & Hotchkisses - turns out not a lot! For names, often the First letter of the name corresponds with the Company Letter - Alsace, Bir Hakiem, Camerone etc

Renault TBH I hate that......Why dress something up as what it obviously isn't? Over here there are more Easy Coy 506th PIR marked Vehicles than they ever held....... Why not mark up a Hotchkiss as a FRENCH Vehicle. at least it isn't pretending......

Looks like the VM are deliberately rubbing the French noses in it - the inscriptions on the Jeeps and the weaponry carried........
