The 30 rnd mags came into being with the introduction of the M2 Carbine in early 1945.
Theres a picture of a 30 rnd mag being used on a M1A1 in the centre fold pictures of the book "the last valley" by Martin Windrow.
Though rarely seen in Indo China, I believe the few who could get their hands on them would keep them for their final "assault" mag.
I myself am after one or two for my indo impression but finding a source is proving difficult with the standard 15 rnd mags going for £5 / $10 here in the UK but the 30 rnd mags going for £15 / $30. Also i'm after the modified standard 15 rnd Carbine magazine pouch for the 30 rnd magazines. (Which basically is a normal carbine pouch with the flap cut in half and an extra extension piece sown into place).

Also to my previous posts the M3 carbine (a selective-fire M2 with the M1 infrared night sight or sniperscope) is also reported to have been used at Dien Bien Phu.

M-1 Carbine mags have gone out of sight here. You can't touch a 15 rounder for anywhere less that $20! The occassional "find" does occur. I scored 6 the other day at of all places an antiques mall!!! For like $12 a piece. The little old ladirs that ran the place didn't know what they were.
The day of thr $2 carbine mag are long gone!!!!!

I recall in the mid 70 's that there were cases of carbine Mags on sale at Gun Shows cheap , when I was in Viet Nam 70-71 I mostly saw the 30 rd mags , but the quiestion is did the french have them in 45-54 , or did the US need all the 30 rd mags for Korea and not let any go i have plenty of 15 and 30 rd mags , I just want to use what was normal issue for that time

The french did have the 30 rnd mags but they weren't that common compared to the 15 rnd ones.
