...which was not used in indochina. There are a few pictures of T'ai and Meo tribesmen wearing WWI era leather belts and pouches, but not the Mle 35 gear. This was not issued in enough quantities in France prior to WWII and did not reach the far east.

Cookie / Marsouin,
Was the French musette used in FICW? I am positive it was issued to 5e REI, but did the item remain in stock for the Indochina War?

The most used model was the french m-1882 (yes!!!) musette (illustrated on my scan with the MAS 36 equipment).Made of canvas and closing with 2 aluminium buttons. Otherwise, the british small pack was also sometimes worn on the side as musette but as it looks, not quite often though.... Regarding the M-1950 musette toutes armes,I think it was issued round 1952...Just my own hypothesis...I haven't found a pic showing its use so far....

The only items of French Mle 35 webbing I've seen in photos is the musette/side bags for the FM 24/29. These were tan canvas with brown leather reinforcing. They are, however, fairly uncommon. Brit P37 pouches and the old school 1882 French Musette were much more so. Later to be partially replaced by the TAP magazine bags for paras.
