vive le Vinogel!!!!!! Renault ----------- actually Spec's does deliver, but its one hell of a price! (about $40 if its a six pack or two). However, I am usually up in Austin now once or twice or month and would be willing to drop off a sixpack or two to you (Court, I will let you know when I will be up there as well so we can break up the Socialist Women's Collective Coffee Clatch on Guadalupe! :-) The Good: I've found simple red table wines to be the *best* tasting of everything I have sunk my taste buds into. Its as thought the "cheap sh*t" has a more mellow taste, although technically for wine, as you purchase higher the taste should become more refined and accent the palate. My friend in Houston, Head Sommelier at the Tasting Room [ www.tastingroomwines.com/ ] ... has made mention that some of the best tasting wines are simple, French table wines (and their American counterparts). The Bad: GALLO! /martini/

One superb wine I've come across at a local tasting here was "Frog's Leap" - although when I was in Napa late last year, I could not make it to their winery: www.frogsleap.com/I'll spare you the boring, wine-numbing, wine-snob terms ("fruity body", "thorough and long lasting nose", or my favorite, "this wine has an essence of hunting dog"), but they make a damn good wine. Renault recently brought several bottles of Mouton Cadet to an event and we knocked off several. This is a cheap, but sure bet wine for just about anything from McDonald's to grilled steaks. Price is excellent. My favorite is Christian Moex Bordeaux - the taste is the best. I give it "three Mad Dog 20/20's up." /martini/

The last bottle of Christian Meaux I bought was corked, SO BAAAAD!!!!! I doubt I'll buy it again.
The Mouton Cadet Bordeaux was on clearance!!!!!!! I could not pass it up. It's an excellent wine for the cash. It was half price!
However my preference is always for a decent Cote du Rhone!

Boy, am I glad that Kronenbourg is readily available here! On a side bar, has anyone got a picture of the bottles used in 45 - 62?

Yes! Lemme see if I can find the pic in my archives! We have a gentleman in Canada, a former Legionnaire, who sent us copies of a bunch of his photos. In one of those pics is a Camerone celebration with all the beer set out on a makeshift bar.
I'll see if I can find it. If I don't have a copy our Capitaine has a copy for sure!!!!!!

i even found K-bourg at my local coffee watering hole and its on sale for happy hour, when the coffe shop turns into a typical texas bar!
formez vous!
if you have never drunk this beer before, at first it may taste pretty bad. it takes about 3-4 to affect a good aftertaste. not sure what it is in the beer (or their brewing process) but it takes a while to get develop a taste for it.

The secret is perseverance, Mon Ami. If one bottle of Kronenbourg doesn’t do it, have a second. If you do not appreciate the truly delightful flavor by your second have a third, and so on. If you are still not appreciating the ambrosia-esq flavor by, say, your seventh bottle just surrender your keys to M. Frappier and go for a joy ride with Lt. Renault in his jeep at night, preferably when the operation of his headlights are questionable (at best) and the temperature outside is hovering slightly above freezing. Once the ride is over - and you have spit out the accumulated gravel picked up from kissing the ground thankfully upon your safe arrival (?) – have another. If, at this point, you do not recognize and appreciate the wondrous flavor of Kronenbourg you might consider seeking out a more sedate hobby than FFL, perhaps something along the lines of minesweeping or maybe javelin catching?
