Greeting all,
We are putting together a First Indochina War (1946-1954) event this February 20, 21, 22, 2009 in East Texas. What started out as a small group of like minded individuals wishing to get together for a great time has ballooned to a nice size event.
So far it's a generic scenario, loosely set on French troop movement on Route Coloniale 4. We've gained a lot of interest with those wishing to participate as Viet Minh! Would be great to see numbers 3 or 4 to 1 against the French, but that would be wishful thinking. As it stands now, numbers are about even.
Tactical situation will be on Saturday only with Friday and Sunday being travel days. If you think you might be interested in such an event, feel free to PM me on this board for more details!
Thanks!

Bob, I see you, My mp-40 is in the shop for a tune up but should be back and working soon. Can't wait to blast some VC. I didn't see enough action with FJ rgt2 so after the war I joined up. No jobs in germany.

I wish we could just skip January and get straight to February. I'd even be willing to give up the Jan event at Anderson

grog's right.
lets skip 1944, end the war and *immediately* jump ship for l'indochine and "our reward."
FICW seems to have caught on within the reenacting community as its that part of history that has been essentially "lost" and once again, reenactors are taking a second look at it.
bob, i wonder if anyone is still using the bunkers in beaumont from the legions' first event there? [ i was out there in '88 before anything was built and can attest to the superb real estate for reenacting ].

i just realized something... isn't it still going to be quite COLD in february? bringing winter gear to a Indochina event just seems... wrong... and what would VM bring anyway, soviet greatcoats? Brrrrrr... hope its not cold. We need to do a July/August event sometime to get the full heat factor

David,
It's still a crap shoot for February. It could be freezing or hot as blazes. I remember Feb, 27, 2005 it hit 104F in Austin!!!!! I'm hoping that late in the month we have the usual 60F+ days. May get cool at night, but we'll be back at the "ville", indoors having a great time. Besides in Tonkin, especially in the highlands, it was known to get in the upper 30's that time of the year.
BTW, EVENT TEASER TIME!!!!!!!
Event in the works!!!!!
I haven't mentioned it yet, but look for something posted here real soon on a June event here in Texas. A BIGGIE!!! I was gonna wait until the Feb event got a little closer. This will be a FUN event!!!!!!!! I didn't wanna steal any thunder away from the Feb. event.
More to come!

Hey Bob, I saw the blurb on the TMHS list about the Ft Richardson event the same weekend as Rusk. Do you think that will hurt our VM numbers since we had some Germans and GIs that were interested in doing VM?
Also, if you don't mind, I have an OPFOR group that Court, Mick, and myself used to run with back in the day (when we could actually run) that I was thinking of approaching about putting together a VM impression. OK with you?

Bonsoir:
I am working on putting together a FICW kit. Would like to do Legion. Can't make Feb, but would like to focus on a June event. Considering I am in NC and not part of any unit, would I need to join one to participate? If so, any recommendations? If I am able to come as an individual, is there a list somewhere of kit requirements so I can put together the kit in time for June.
Merci.

Has there been any work done on a command structure for the Viet Minh at this event? Since the french are already a cohesive reenacting unit, I'm sure you guys have organized ranks and roles and all that good stuff... will the VM have a commander, or are we going to be running around like so many crazy chickens? Also, have you heard an estimate as to the VM numbers coming out? I'm bringing myself and my wife.

Yes,,, give us a bit asd we'll have everything posted. There's a lot of "behind the scene" activity going on right now, and we're all busy with something.
I'll post right now that I'm off to Kansas in the morning, for 4 days, to see my new grandson. And there's also been a death in the family of one of the planners. So there' a lot going on.
Matter of fact the VM field commander is on this board and he's more than welcome to post anything, anytime he may feel important or newsworthy. Mainly were waiting on the operational order that will be posted shortly.

Bonjour mes amis! Well here it is Feb. 1! The First Indochina War tactical is 20 days away!!!!!!! If you are still planning to attend, and you haven't registered, be sure and contact one of the overall commanders listed on the registration page of the website to let them know you are going to attend. We need to start getting a headcount together! Here's the weblink! www.shle.org/2009_REENACTMENT_FICW.html Be sure to check out all the sub links on the site for any additional information on safety, location, scenario, and authenticity standards. If you still have questions, you can always contact one of the OA commanders for an answer. This event has really taken off with lots of excited and pumped participants on both sides!!!! I can tell you that the numerous French forces are ready!!!!!! If any are interested in a French medical impression you are sorely needed! The medical staff are playing a MAJOR role in the French union forces. Feel free to contact Paul Kendall @; pkendall@flash.net If you would like to participate on the medical staff! We are planning an even BIGGER, FICW event for sometime in June. It will be at the 400 acre O' Brian Ranch at Zephyr Texas. It will be a "Groupe Mobile" style event. And the abundance of hills and jeep trails on the ranch promise to offer a real combat experience for participants. More to come on this event! So be sure to contact a commander if you wish to come to Rusk in several weeks! Feel free to pass the word on this event! Merci! Bob Norment dit Lt. R. Renault III/13eme DBLE SHLE www.shle.org

We're packed! Wine and Pernod is packed. All we have to do is load magazines. Fedi says he's cooking something Saturday night. You know it will be good! I think I'll toss together some rattatouille avec boudin Friday evening. Nothing fancy, but it will complement the Cote du Rhone. Mmmmmm,,,, I can taste it now! La Miss and I will be there around noonish Friday. This is going to be fun! Renault

It is long past the time. Time to exterminate this place of those french aggressors by the thousands, and teach them a lesson even their arrogant minds can never forget! Push back the oppression that has held down our dear land for so long. Take up rifle with your dear Uncle and vanquish the enemy without mercy or remorse! Shake off the chains of tyranny! There is no opposition, nothing can stand in our way! Forward for the glory of the collective! Forward for Viet Nam!

Hope everyone made it safely back from the event! Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who worked so hard for this event to be a success, which in my opinion it was, despite all the rain. Can't wait to see the pics!
