Going to see this new movie tomorrow www.publicenemies.net/... it's interesting as Hollywood glamorizes yet more 'filth' as my Dad would say. The public enemies / bank robber reenactment scene is now going full blast and the current scuttlebutt is that the movie will kick off a recruiting drive. Sigh. Now everyone will want to come and play Dillinger.

So I wonder if anyone will want to reenact Joseph Kennedy??? Bootlegger, anglophobe, supplier of weapons & cash to the IRA, father to our beloved Prez JFK, and oh did I forget,,,,,,, US Ambassodor to the UK during the war... He was a public enemy as far as I'm concerned! Only difference between him and Capone was he had more senators in his back pocket! Renault

Interesting you mention Kennedy.
I am reading Ted Morgan's MY BATTLE OF ALGIERS... and apparently the young Senator Kennedy [ before he ran for President ] gave a speech in the well of the Senate about Algerian Independence, how evil the French are, how ungrateful the French are, and why American needs to support 'independence movements' around the globe and stop 'colonialization.' Several newspapers stated that the speech bordered on treason. The French fired back at Kennedy and accused him of gross indescretions on the Algerian debate. The book is phenominal...
According to Ted Morgan, the Kennedy's had contacts not only with the Algerian Independence movement's political group at the U.N, but the FLN in Algeria, specifically the more left-wing elements that were tied to the Algerian Communist Party. Morgan, who is certainly no fan of France or the French [ there are plenty of Frenchmen like him ] says that the Kennedy's blatant hatred of France was well known and well discussed in the halls of power. [ Ted Morgan was born Comte St. Charles Armand Gabriel de Gramont but renounced his French heritage and nobility in 1977 ]
JFK has always been an untouchable because of the press's fawning love for him, his wife and the fictional "Camelot" [ the current love affair with our current hip-hop President comes to mind ]. The more we learn about Kennedy - the more people detest him.
BTW, the author interviewed Bigeard as well. Bigeard was responsible for the capture [ or killing ] of most of the FLN leadership in the Casbah, including the last three members of the group that were shot and killed in the last big gun battle. God I love this man. He told his officers: do what you have to do to find these terrorists - dead or alive. I will stand behind you. Men like this simply don't exist anymore...

And to this VERY day, the Kennedy's still get their cut from EVERY bottle of Scotch that comes into the good ol' U. S. of A.! Thank you Uncle Joe! I could not for the life of me understand the reason FDR (another Francophobe) had for putting Joe in the Ambassodor's chair in London? ? But then again FDR was infatuated with the Vichy Regime....
