Hello all. You are cordially invited to a UK based 2 day trekking event in the beautiful Wye Valley and Forest of Dean area of western England and the Welsh borders. The scenario is based on the exploits of the survivors of the garrison of Dien Bien Phu who actually made it back to friendly lines after the battle in 1954. A handful of paratroopers managed to escape from the Viet Minh prisoner columns after DBP and a tank crew successfully got back to French lines after the battle. Equipment carried on the trek will be very basic. Very little will be carried - just what's in your pockets, a waterbottle and perhaps a musette bag. We'll also have the relative luxury of a map and compass - Blair Witch this is not This could be a challenging event - moving stealthily, perhaps sometimes at night, with an improvised bivouac in the forest. The exact date is to be confirmed, but it will be held this summer. Please contact me if you want to find out more. Cheers, LeM.

These types of events are the best I beleive when it comes to realism (or as close to simulated, tactical training) we can get. 3e BCCP will be dusting off our boots and shaking out the ponchoes in preparation for our own 72-hour "intensive" in which the reenactor brings his weapon, equipment, rations and water for three days ... and thats it. I think Yann called this a "railhead" type event on the main WWII forum, which I think is certainly apropos.
Good luck ... and LeM., Cookie we want an after-action report!
Mick
