Major thunderstorm in Houston right now .... It's 1905 and its been raining for the past two hours. I've got water in the kitchen, back bedroom and the gym (its normal for the gym since its low). I went outside and dug a trench under the fence to get the water to flow toward the street ... but it too is flooded - 4.5 feet at the stop sign! My chapaeu de brusse works great in the rain!!!!!! It feels like the monsoon! Summer in Texas is here!

The son, son-in-law and I were out chasing hogs last night. I was trying to run animals toward them and was way out on their left flank. I was in a treeless, marshy area full of reeds and water maybe 8-10" deep. It was really cool. I was in an Algerian dated M47 jacket, pautagas, chapeau de brousse, and packin' my MAS 36. Really looked like Annam or Cochinchine!

Renault, were you running animals at the hogs, or your sons? I need clarification there... haha!
Mick, sorry to hear about the flooding... we're in a second story apartment, so we stayed dry, the only annoyance was that our TV shows were interrupted by constant weather updates! The horrors! I hope you are able to get the house back to normal soon. Cheers!

LS Charlie:
I wish I were in Renault's shoes chasing hogs...
The second thunderstorm passed through early this morning [ about 5am ] and woke my a-- up from a good sleep. I got up, looked outside - street flooded up to the maple tree, made coffee, and began setting the kitchen for port listing... My bush hat is wet, but it does the job --- I kinda wonder what the monsoon rains were like in Upper Tonkin...
However, the trench I dug last night did wonders; the front bedroom and kitchen did not flood when the hard rain fell about 0645. Unfortunately my trench sent a residue of mud onto my neighbor's driveway, so I am sure to hear about that when she gets home from work.
I did club a large Norwegian rat to death [ can't use firearms here inside the city limits ] that was limping along the fenceline; I think one of the feral cats had gotten ahold of him pretty good, but its the one thats been getting in the garbage as of late. I need a small .22 with silencer...
Remember the '94 Tropical Storm Allison that blew in and sat on top of the city for a week? I lived in an second story apartment; everybody below me got flooded. Braes bayou crested and I remember walking into work in my slickers and wet boots with a foot of water in my office.

Mick, ask me one evening when we have a nice fire and a cup of wine. It will take that to get to even think about it but!!!......

Thanks for some of your emails guys ... things here went the usual way they do: after the storms, pull everything outside and dry them out! Post-operational clean up!
The only good that came of this is the yard does not need to be watered for at least a week now!!!!

Although we don't have storms like you do over there, we had one that blew in, flooded our little Headland and left within 30 minutes - it took weeks for my WWI SDs to dry (I was taking part in a WWI Display at a local Gun Battery)
