From our "speiss" up north, Yann Bandy: Maurice Druon, co-writer of the famous Chant des Partisans died today. In 1940, he was a cadet at the Saumur academy and took part in defense of the school with his fellow cadets, holding off 2 German divisions with only antiquated weapons. This action earned the praise of French and Germans alike. Later, Druon co-wrote the Chants des Partisan which became the anthem of the Maquis and the Resistance in general. A post war vote almost replaced the Marseilliase with this song as the national anthem! Anna Marly was the original singer. As a kid, I had to memorize this song by heart in school. A very pretty song, an version sung by Yves Montand is very moving. A little more about M.
