Dien Bien Phu. released in 1992. The best French war movie ever made (and not released with English subtitles!!!). It starred Donald Pleasance, of all people, who played the US reported Howard Simpson, and looked and sounded nothing like the real man, who happened to be a friend of Marcel Bigeard!
It is an excellent film and is what gave me the inspiration to do my own photoshoots.

I just wish we could get a release here in the states for Region 1 DVD's. The only thing I've heard of available are second and third generation copies! UUUGGGHH!
Awesome pics!!!!!!!!! The music isn't bad either.......

It is a great movie! Fortunately it was also released in German. ...and the music fits also very good to the situation. For our last event, which was only a display thing with other US Vietnam groups, we even considered to play Georges Delerue's 'Concerto de l'Adieu' as background music on infinite loop. ;D In the end we didn't do that but had to spend our day with explaining what we represented and then fighting the myth of DBP being the last battle of the Waffen-xx. The GIs really liked our wine, Pastis and Ricard. Here the part of the movie when the 'Concerto de l'Adieu' is played in concert with real time scenes of DBP being faded in. www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhX3M5eWzBUand the concerto without movie. Its very impressive! www.youtube.com/watch?v=rScShTroKtgWith best regards, Turner

Yeah that music really catches the spirit of the battle.
I also like the way the film starts the battle looking out over the hills, with the infantry sitting about on the hill tops. The artillery barrage that plasters the distant hills is awesome.
It is a shame the soundtrack to the film is out of print on CD!

"The GIs really liked our wine, Pastis and Ricard." Yes, we find that the GI's really like "our" taste in beverages too! It has become difficult for US Officers to keep their troops out of the Legion camp! Personally, I prefer Pastis to Pernod, as it is half the price of Pernod, and it makes me have some really wild dreams! Renault
