Hello all,
What's the difference between the TAP Mlle 50 Musette bag and the TAP Mlle 55 Musette?
Just curious to know how similar they are.
Merci bien!
LeM.

Not sure about the Mle 55(?). Its not something I've heard of, but I tend to focus on Indo era kit.
I know that there were certain variations in the Mle 50 TAP Musette, such as:
On the earliest models the side pocket flap was triangular in shape and featured a US style -lift-the-dot snap fastener. This was replaced by a simpler wooden button and hole. In its turn this was replaced by a green/brown plastic button. The flap went from being triangular some time in between the different buttons. Maybe the Mle 55 featured longer shoulder straps, as my Mle 50 has very short ones, and is a feature common to that item.

Thanks Cookie,
Any chance of posting a photo of your TAP 50 musette - just so I know what to look out for?
Cheers,
LeM.

Look at this thread in Reenacting units: "Not a unit, but here anyway..." page 2 half way down. Regards For the two TAP50 variations I posted also something in that thread. The TAP55 musette is quite different from the TAP50 and TTA51 musettes. It is larger, has two side pouches which are closed by two snaps, it is broader than high, the sjoulder straps are very long and it has a strap sewn to the main flap which has two eyelets in it to attach 1910 wire hookers into them. ...and although its model date is 1955 I suppose tehere were some in DBP, already. Now have a look: or: cgi.ebay.fr/MUSETTE-D%27ALL%C8GEMENT-MOD%C8LE-55-TAP-INDOCHINE-Compl%E8te_W0QQitemZ360144778918QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090406?IMSfp=TL0904061210001r3955In the movie DBP: With best regards, Turner

I doubt it very much if that item saw service in Dien Bien Phu. They were used in the movie due to the scarcity of the Mle 50 version. Its a nice piece though. Very Algerian!
