I was just on the main WWII forum in the vendor area and stopped for a moment and started counting ... the number of vendors there are for German / axis reenactors vs French. The number is truly extraordinary: it must be 100 to 1. And that '1' is probably a vendor who carries BOTH German and French gear.
I reenacted fallschirmjager for a short time and realized that you had so much to choose from - and that was in the 80's before the gates blew open and now everyone sells German uniforms, equipment and knick-knacks. I'll never forget putting together my uniform at Fort Hood in several weeks from an NCO in my battalion who had everything (except the weapon!).
French is still very much catch as catch can ... picking up something here, something there.

True enough. Even living so close we can't get much French kit over here in blighty. Then again they have been your allies longer than ours! Apart from that rare occasion of Suez.

Kroot ----- laughed my a** off on that post. LOL! ;D When I was stationed in Germany, I remember going to an open door flea market in Kaiserslautern (a click away from our kaserne) and seeing one table FILLED with Adrian helmets, French leather gear, boots, kepi's, etc., for the most ridiculous prices (I think the helmets went for $5 USD - and this was back when the dollar was nearly 3 to 1 to the DM). Transport me back in time please! /martini/
