SHLE
JUNE 2009
GROUPE MOBILE EVENT
Picture yourself on patrol in a mechanized infantry column. Your part of a French column on a typical reinforced patrol, and your objective is to safely reach a “hedgehog” of Legion and colonial paras. You’ve departed your main forward operations base along one of the many “Route Coloniales” in Annam, Indochina, and half way to your destination, you find yourself in a well executed ambush initiated by the Viet Minh!
That’s what the Societe Historique de La Legion Etrangere (SHLE) has planned for the weekend of June 12, 13, an 14, 2009 at the spacious and scenic O’Brian Ranch in Zephyr Texas. Pat and Wanda O’Brian have graciously offered up their Texas Hill Country ranch of 400 acres (all on the former Camp Bowie WWII military base!) to the societe and it’s friends to hold a “Groupe Mobile” event . The O’Brians are big Dodge “Power Wagon” fans and have their ranch cris-crossed with numerous roads and jeep trails that would serve the purpose to replicate any one of those “rues sans joie” of Indochina!
The scenario is quite simple. The French have established two well entrenched "hedgehogs”. Simple patrol and resupply columns run back and forth between these hedge hogs and other points of interest. It is up to the Viet Minh to disrupt and or destroy any of these columns, or attack these hedge hogs as they see fit! Naturally it’s up to the French to keep their lines of communication open and maintain the military integrity of their outpost. Keep them out of Viet Minh hands!
The French will be in need of several vehicles; jeeps, weapons-carriers, trucks, troop transports, etc. The Viet Minh will be in need of mass quantites of well dedicated recruits to rid their land of the imperial pestilence!
ARE YOU UP TO THE CHALLENGE??? There will be an official website for this event posted on the SHLE website @;
www.shle.org.
So visit there often to receive up to date information on the event.
After the battle, there promises to be a great time at the O’ Brian’s big mechanic shop and bar for all event participants. If you enjoyed our first ever French Indochina war event last February, you’re sure to enjoy this event even more!
