Hi all, which pistol would have been the commonest for medics in para battalions? I expect that it would be either a MAB or a MAC50. I know there were odd exotic types out there (Colt 1911 and maybe even P38s), but I'm interested in the typical not the unusual. When was the MAC50 first used in any numbers? Cheers, David.

I dunno what the medics would have carried, but 1911A1's and P-38's would not have been all that exotic or unusual as a whole in Indochina..... They were rather common.....

Browning Hi Powers were fairly common in French service during that period. A Luger P08 would not be out of place, either. The MAC 50 was pretty slow to be issued, so I would put that lower on the list of probables.

The MAB D was a quite rare pistol in the regular French Units. As far as I know it was used my the police, gendarmerie, but not primarly by the army units.
So I would get a Mle 1935A or S, P38, P08 or M1911A1.
