Cookie, Great job! I can only sit here in Houston, Texas and twittle my fingers and sigh! I've been looking for a MAT49 parts kit now for two years .... Laugh of the week. One of our new members in the unit called a local gunshop here in Houston today. Texas. TEXAS! We are the land of guns! He asked the gentleman behind the counter if they had, carried or would order a MAS36 boltaction rifle. The gunstore salesman said, "Whats a MAS36?" Unbelievable! In Houston? Hell, I managed to find a MAS36 *and* a MAS36/51 in Vancouver, WA... Now if I could only find ammo... Craig

Unbelievable! In Houston? Hell, I managed to find a MAS36 *and* a MAS36/51 in Vancouver, WA... Now if I could only find ammo... Craig Prvi 7.5x54mm is fairly easily available. Check online- AIM Surplus, Palmetto State Armory, etc... If you are interested in reloading, the brass is excellent. It's some of the cleanest ammo I've shot. Good accuracy, too. If you plan to use it in a MAS-44, -49 or -49/56, be sure to test for slamfires. Two of my -49/56's are fine with it, while the other will need to have .5mm taken off the tip of the firing pin to blunt that tip. My MAS-49 is on the way, so we'll see how that turns out. Spare MAS firing pins are really easy to find.

Everybody appears to be out of stock. I'll definitely do reloading after havin' all this trouble finding any place that has it in stock.

Hopefully have my MAT49 by the weekend. Found a dealer in the UK who knew a dealer in France, who shipped them to Deact expert ( who won't do another MAT in his life!) who passed them to the proof house and now it's coming my way. All that started in November 2013, just be patient if looking is the moral of the story.
Cheers

I have not seen any list of serial numbers and the corresponding dates like I have for the French rifles. The Bakelite grip panels would definitely put it as a Type 2. The Type 3 with the stamped grip without panels came around in the late-'60's if I recall that one correctly.
Mind if I ask where you are located? I'm assuming it's non-firing.

That's what I figured. What condition is this one in? I know a batch went to the UK from some sub-Saharan African country a couple years ago that looked like absolute shyte. Rust buckets, to be more exact. I think they were all Type 3's, though.

That's most excellent. Mind postin' pictures, along with any other kit you may have?
Seeing to the fact that there are only a handful of MAT Mle. 49's in this country- whether full- or semi-auto- the chances of me ever seeing one in person are slim.

Got quoted 3000.00 for 10 resin model - A bit stiff but that's the way it is to do a small run -
He's going to use them in the movie then sell off some -
As for where to find the parts kits - I've seen them on Gunboards.com and Gunbroker - They appear on Gunbroker a bit more than the Gunboards.com -
As for price range - I'vfe seen them as low as 600 for some with a lot of missing pieces to complete kit with cut receiver for around 800 to 900 - This is for the 49 kit -
The 38s are a bit more difficult to locate -

Saigon1965 - nice to see you here, I have just joined this site (a few hours ago) - drifted here doing research and looking to buy items for the collection and movie - The resin MAT49s will be getting started shortly - we're making ten for the film - but I will own the mold afterward, so we just have to see how well they turn out.
The other resin-guns this fabricator has made are exceptionally good quality - really photo real - with the right paint job. He does breath-taking work for ISS and the other major studio prop houses, short run firearm dummies - The MAT49 has proven tricky because of the shoulder stock and the thickness of the steel "wire" used on the original.

This is what we were delivered - ten were made we shall see how they hold up. They are hard rubber, which is more durable and better looking than resin.
