Hi guys, does any of you have any idea what the story behind the colour schemes on French grenades - DF37 and OF37? From what I know, the blue, black and white are practice/school grenades. The yellow, yellow/red and brown schemes are propably connected to the explosive inside? Is there any difference within the years? If anyone has a clue - please share with us... Thanks Jakub P.S. - cool web about the grenades: www.lexpev.nl/grenades/europe/france/mle1937offensive.html

The top was yellow. Like the US M2 "pineapple" grenade, the yellow bottom half denoted flaked TNT inside, ergo high explosive. The caption on the picture in this link gives the coloring scheme: books.google.com/books?id=3D-VCwAAQBAJ&printsec=frontcover#v=onepage&q&f=false[In case that site goes tits-up] Yellow top half plus: Green bottom= Cheddite. Yellow= TNT. Red/Brown= Scheiderite, amatol, or ammonium nitrate/xylite. The OF has a thinner body with more explosive for better blast effect, while the DF is smaller, with a smaller charge and thicker jacket for better fragmentation effect. Fuses had a five-second delay (if commie sympathizers in the factories weren't messing with them, as was rumored).

During my recent visit to the Czech Republic, Jakub (rullow) was kind enough to present me with a 3D-printed and painted OF37 grenade body and a pressed steel spoon. He is working on making repro fuses. I'll post a picture tonight.

Hi finally get myself to the point when I have something to present.... after succesfull trial of spoons metal stamping, I made finally few samples of grenades and fuses.... for the moment both the grandes and spoons are from eprosin Z40 - the dark grey colour.... the mould should be suitable for using the tin too - I ve tried some fuses made from tin but the mold was too freshand burned out after two tries.... as well as it burned my hand too those two are right top... however Z40 seems quite OK and it kept also the letters from the fuse.... master models are 3d printed and after few minor ameliorations I ll offer them online for free (as well as files for fuses) hopefully both the updated spoons + molded fuses will be available in bigger numbers.... now I am polishing the process so the first runs are more abou to see what can be done, how much time is needed and what cost it should be for...

Gorgeous. I admire your industriousness. Aside from wrenching a few rifles together, I'm way to lazy to be that productive. I'm sure your fiancée fully understands your project. Na zdraví!

Hi Steven, wel its just a matter of determination - if I wont do it nobody will well putting a rifle together might be definitely more joyful than this yep what she understands is that I am always out there hitting something with a hammer anyway - a bit of a progress... DF needs to be redesigned OF is quite OK..... also the fuses seem to me quite OK hallelujah

Wow! Fantastic project and great work! I am very keen on buying one or two whenever you finish these repros. I have searched everywhere for reproduction DF/OF grenades or even inert models to no avail so this is a godsend. Thank you on behalf of all of us French Indochina/Algeria reenactors for taking on this project.

More than a few of us are patiently waiting for these to come to market. I have on of Jakub's prototype grenade bodies and it looks absolutely tops.

Hey guys, the OF37 are on spot, DF still needs a bit of work on its shape - the neck is too thin... hopefully next model will sort it out.... perhaps the best way will be to put together bigger batch of those and ship to US at once to save the costs? Jakub

I think batch shipping will be your best bet. Good to see the "fuses" are ready to go.

Hi all, DF37 has been perfected today, and as I promissed - attached the files for 3d print of the grenade and fuse. One part of the file is also a drawing of an unfolded spoon - its for lase cutter - 0,8mm steel - either aluminium The rest can be made easily out of a wire and O ring uloz.to/!auxr7BT6RPEV/dfmle37-zip here some photos of how it should look like when printed, painted and assembled: I ll order some cutouts for the spoons and start slowly with the first available - free to sell batch... those presented models are made by me and thus I can authorize you to make them freely available for anyone who is interested... OF37 will follow soon - as well as smoke grenade

getting closer cca 10x body of DF is being prepared and I ll get some 3d prints of oF37 as well. But probably a bit less than OF37... will there be any demand for those phosphorous grenades? the same body with different colour stripes was used as tear gas grenade as well so I d like to have it as soon as possible but I am facing a tiny problem since my workshop is gone

ouf ouf - we are getting closer the body seems now perfect - turned on CNC lathe from solid silon bar.. I ve cut out the original threads and now I am waiting if I can get the fuses made out of zamac - to withstand some presure so we could wera them hanging on our webbings I decided to send it out only as perfect product so please be patient for a tiny bit more, and I promise that you wont be dissapointed resin fuses are quite OK but not so much resistant as I hoped for... colour scheme seems OK as well. A stamp will be added later - but probably not on all pieces - evidence on stamping of those is quite enigmatic so better to leave it blank than to f*** it up.... there will be some extra fuses to fit whatever you want - its not so difficult to replicate the algerian war smoke grenades.... - quite similar to the US... (or if you ll get your hands on cheap 3d printing )

I really wish I had your patience for 3D printing and prototyping. Excellent work so far. How involved was the durability testing? Throwing them repeatedly against a wall? Na zrdaví kamarád!

you are almost right I ve tried to screw in the fuse by force - as much as I could by hand (it sat flush on the top already) - and the neck of the thread just broke of and thread stuck in... so I glued it back with epoxy and I ll keep that one for myself.... I want to be at least in the situation when I can screw it in by any force I can and I couldnt move it (and I want to avoid to deal with any overseas quality claims ) you remember this line very well cheers mate!

Don't worry: Us folks over the pond have a God-given right to bitch and complain. We'll find something wrong with the design, whether a problem exists or not. Peace!
